IF YOU HATED IT the first time, you might like the sequel better.
Remember Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the right-wing goon squad whose defamatory insinuations helped sink John Kerry's presidential campaign? They're back! This afternoon, key Swift boaters George "Bud" Day, Mary Jane McManus and Carlton Sherwood are holding a little reunion, in the guise of a panel discussion at the American Conservative Union's annual Conservative Political Action Conference. The panel topic? "The Left's Repeated Campaign Against the American Soldier."
--snip--
The reemergence of the Swifties is depressing, but not because they're likely to do much damage to progressive candidates in the next election cycle. "Swift Boat II: The Sequel" will have a different ending from "Swift Boat I" because Americans just aren't that dumb.
--snip--
We've seen the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq roughly tripled since the 2004 election. We've seen the war in Iraq fuel anti-U.S. sentiment worldwide; we've seen copycat suicide bombings increase in Afghanistan; we've seen the Iraq conflict further inflame tensions with Iran and throughout the Middle East; we've seen hostile states around the globe emboldened by the image of the U.S. caught in a quagmire; we've seen Al Qaeda regroup; we've seen Iraq become a top training ground for aspiring terrorists from all over.
Most of all, we've seen the Bush administration consistently place ideology over reality, remaining willfully blind to the fact that its ill-conceived war is making us less secure and breaking the back of the American military. If there's a "campaign against the American soldier," it's the administration that's been engaged in that campaign, not "the left" ...
What's depressing about the reemergence of the Swifties, though, is that it's symbolic of the increasing takeover of the "conservative" movement by unprincipled, right-wing extremists.

Rosa Brooks has got to be the lowest form of human life on the planet to denigrate true hero and MEDAL OF HONOR recipient Col. Bud Day.
DAY, GEORGE E.(Bud)
Rank and organization: Colonel (then Major), U.S. Air Force, Forward Air Controller Pilot of an F-100 aircraft. Place and date: North Vietnam, 26 August 1967. Entered service at: Sioux City, Iowa. Born: 24 February 1925, Sioux City, Iowa. Citation: On 26 August 1967, Col. Day was forced to eject from his aircraft over North Vietnam when it was hit by ground fire. His right arm was broken in 3 places, and his left knee was badly sprained. He was immediately captured by hostile forces and taken to a prison camp where he was interrogated and severely tortured. After causing the guards to relax their vigilance, Col. Day escaped into the jungle and began the trek toward South Vietnam. Despite injuries inflicted by fragments of a bomb or rocket, he continued southward surviving only on a few berries and uncooked frogs. He successfully evaded enemy patrols and reached the Ben Hai River, where he encountered U.S. artillery barrages. With the aid of a bamboo log float, Col. Day swam across the river and entered the demilitarized zone. Due to delirium, he lost his sense of direction and wandered aimlessly for several days. After several unsuccessful attempts to signal U.S. aircraft, he was ambushed and recaptured by the Viet Cong, sustaining gunshot wounds to his left hand and thigh. He was returned to the prison from which he had escaped and later was moved to Hanoi after giving his captors false information to questions put before him. Physically, Col. Day was totally debilitated and unable to perform even the simplest task for himself. Despite his many injuries, he continued to offer maximum resistance. His personal bravery in the face of deadly enemy pressure was significant in saving the lives of fellow aviators who were still flying against the enemy. Col. Day's conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the U.S. Armed Forces.
No I didn't, Smooth but I check out your link and thanks.
Thanks for the link!
How so?
"...and breaking the back of the American military."
No, the left is breaking the military's back by politicizing the war.
If it was defamatory, why hasn't he sued?

Barf Alert added. :-)
Not to disagree with you ... but Colonel Day, MoH, certainly ranks right up there with John O'Neill as principled men of integrity!!
The b!tch who wrote the article is rather dismissive in relegating ANYONE who was critical of John Kerry as being reactionary and right-wing fringe lunatics. But Kerry still hasn't signed is SF180 - and still hasn't reconsile all the lies that Kerry and the Democrats spin.
The Swift Boat Veterans are also honorable people! I thank them for their work!
Mike
Isn't that the truth. The "Reality Based Community" is so much smarter than everyone else. People who run around telling everyone how smart they are are like guys who brag about how many hot babes they get each week.
The Swiftboat men were not extremists, they simply had a story to tell that the media and Democrats didn't want to hear. They didn't even seem to have an idealogy, but they did have the truth and facts on their side. And that's rather "inconvenient" for some it seems!
You mean depressing to you liberals. Us conservatives take joy in seeing this revival. Our joy is your anger. Anger at the outting of liberal lies dirty politics. I think I need some popcorn for this one.
You'll never see this in greater display than in Manhattan with the upper east side liberals. Hillary voters ground zero.
They live in this small pampered enclave of million dollar condos, screwing around with each others wives and husbands, kids raised by foreign nannys, and anytime the ultra limousine liberal democrats lose an election, its "oh these morons voting for republicans JUST DON'T GET IT...." at the dinner table and parties.
I saw that - but I think O'Neil held his own with the crypt-keeper Colmes! I suspect they have instituted some rules about time for each side. Otherwise I think Hannity would just talk all the time.
I think Colmes talking over O'Neill is a sign of desperation because it was obvious he didn't want to hear the facts from O'Neill. Hey, they're guests H&C - let's hear from them.
God bless the Swift Boat Vets!
It is amazing that a person could get so many medals in such a short time without spending a single night in a hospital bed.
Release the SF180 Jon Cary!
Oops. But I guess I got the number right didn't I?
