Go to jail or go in the military. Are we back in the 50's?

Why is the Navy authorizing this. Criminals erode the service -- period.

Sometimes IF you are not a serious felon or just a plain nut job, the military might just be the place to get a youmng man on the right track. Have we become so PC that someone has to be perfect in all they say and do to serve their country? After all look a John EFFING Kerry.

Many courts are sentencing first time misdemeanor or felony offenders to a "boot camp" lasting 5-6 months, in lieu of jail.

Because he can shoot and we need people to fight this war.

Cruelty to animals is how most sadists and serial murderers got started! These guys should be forever barred from the military or any other position of authority such as law enforcement, etc.

I think this is a great idea! These two kids were drunk and stupid, and the cops caught them at it.

Military service would help so many young and aimless men who don't have any direction. And you what...we used common sense on a daily basis back in the 50's. I am hoping it comes back into style!

Not applicable in this case. The real issue is their being stupid drunk with loaded guns.

Have to admit I was kind of an idiot way back when and entered the Army - shaped me up, did my time, got my degree with VEAP. Not saying I'm exactly a model citizen now but I'm not a loser either.

Let's see, they come back from shore leave, drunk, wanting to kill something. Then they crawl into the rack next to me. Right... I'm sure to get a good nights sleep!

We're probably the longest maturing of God's creation ... we don't get it together until around our thirties (I have a whole sermon on this also ... think of a 33 year old Jesus).

The world tends to consider and treat a person as an adult waaayyyy before they are and are capable of being so.

The military is just the place to take up where what used to be dad's job, and provides the discipline to continue the maturation process.

I believe it is a wise judge that can discern which go into prison and which go into the military.

Used to happen a lot in the mid-late 60s. But it was ARMY that got these guys.

It will be interesting to find out if the Navy is aware of their criminal behavior and has approved their enlistments. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the Navy is (was) unaware.

I said - Cruelty to animals is how most sadists and serial murderers got started!

you said - Not applicable in this case.

We simply disagree.....and the reason I disagree is that I've seen such defects in human character played out in this regard.....in the field, btw.

My daughter was hit by a 17 year old kid who only had his license for less than a week while getting off the schoolbus. He went right through lights, left 110' of rubber skid marks and his car came to a stop at about the back tires or the bus, throwing my daughter about 30' from point of impact.

It took almost a year to get him in front of the judge, and by that time he was almost 18 and came in with his recruiter. I sat their seething while the judge explained that since he was going to go in the navy he would get his military license so it was pointless to take his state license from him. He asked the recruiter if he was a good candidate, and the guy said they would be happy to have him, and he had already took his tests and had a slot picked out.

When the guy said he was going to be an EOD specialist and the kid seemed excited about it. I just grinned, I figure that since my daughter was going to be OK that seemed like a good punishment to me. :-)

Drunk and stupid kids who abuse animals (what lowlifes) in the military?

We're going to arm these morons? Maybe they can be stationed in Okinawa and continue the recent Marine tradition:

Yep.

I wasn't told to by a judge but I knew it time to get out of "Dodge." The Army didn't do bad by me and I didn't do bad by the Army.

Wow. This is wonderful news. I thought the ACLU ushered this valuable form of alternative sentencing out a long time ago.

Military, through sentencing like this, has saved many a young poor boy this way.
