Stop me before I pander again (audio clip of Hillary Clinton's Selma speech)
American Thinker ^ | March 05, 2007 | Thomas Lifson

There has been a lot of attention paid on the web and on talk radio to this audio clip of Hillary Clinton affecting a Southern accent addressing a rally in Selma, AL yesterday. Not the same rally Barack Obama spoke at, though. A seperate but equal rally, of course.

It appears that Hillary has a problem with getting carried away when addressing an audience. The woman who claims she was "always a Yankee fan" despite growing up in suburban Chicago, is going to have quite a problem, if she campaigns for the next 18 months. Who knows what other accents she will affect? Will her harridan-voice become a familiar tone when audiences wildly applaud and she tries to talk over them?

It is looking to me as though she has a real problem with authenticity.

Hillary didn't even live on the south side of Chicago, let alone the Mason Dixon line, LOL

I had a FReeper PM me an article giving Hillary a pass because she "lived in the south for 17 years".

I'm born/raised here and the only time I've ever heard people talking like Hillary did is when they're mocking a southern accent.

Hillary is as phony as her Southern accent.

The Clintons are to America what e.coli is to an open buffet.

In my opinion it is natural to slip into an honestly acquired southern accent in the midst of others who speak that way.

hillary's accent aside for the moment, I know what you mean. I generally do not have an accent (many good folks in Jersey have told me as much). I too am from a small Texas town (Seguin). I also lived in Houston for 21 years. I know that if I'm around a group of friends (Texans, particularly east Texans for some reason), I tend to speak with a drawl. And when my grandfathers were alive, I would speak to them in Spanish and with an accent. As for hillary, from the clip I saw and heard, she was quoting James Cleveland and I guess she was trying to impersonate his accent.

I actually felt embarrassed for her.

That was my first thought, but only for a second. Then I realized I should feel sorry for the black people in the audience.

She insulted them to a degree almost beyond belief. I just am amazed that they have regressed so far from 1964. She talked to them like they were a crowd of house boys and plantation workers and they lapped it up.

Her delivery, along with the speech's content, was the most racist and insulting public spectacle I have seen by a politician in years. How could Hillary (in private) have any respect for a group of people that are so willing to prostitute their dignity and self reliance to such insulting pandering? Of course she doesn't. Nor do any of her ilk.

How do we stop people that are so intent on formenting hatred as these Democrats? How can we when there are so many, so willing to embrace this baldface racism and hatred? I literally had to turn it off so I could finish my lunch it was so sickening.

Her finest moment was when she called a servant a "fu*king Jew bastard" and nobody cared.

Supposedly, the target of her wrath was one Paul Frey, Bill's campaign manager when he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives in 1974. Frey, interestingly, wasn't even Jewish. There is much more about Hillary's finest moment here.

Opening lines of Hillarys 2004 DNC speech:

Twelve years ago, when our country needed new leadership, Americans elected a Democrat who gave us eight years of peace, prosperity, and promise. Tonight I have the pleasure of introducing the last great Democratic President.

But first I want to say a few words about the next great Democratic president, John Kerry.

We meet at a moment of great peril, but also of great hope. Together we can widen the circle of opportunity for all Americans, transcend our differences and divisions, and give our children a safer and more secure future. That's the promise of America. And John Kerry will renew that promise.

However, we know today that she would alter this to fit the audience. Here's the same speech run through a Jive Translator

Twelve years ago, when our country needed new leadership, Amerikins elected some Democrat who gave us eight years uh peace, prospuh'ity, and promise. What it is, Mama! Tonight Ah gots' de pleasure uh introducin' de last great Democratic Super-dude. What it is, Mama!

But fust Ah wants' t' say some few words 'bout de nest great Democratic super-dude, Raz'tus Kerry. Slap mah fro!

We meet at some moment uh great puh'il, but also's uh great hope. What it is, Mama! Togida' we kin widen de circle uh opportunity fo' all Amerikins, transcend our differences and divisions, and give our children some safa' and more secure future. What it is, Mama! Dat's de promise uh America. Sheeeiit. And Raz'tus Kerry gots'ta renew dat promise. What it is, Mama!

Heard the clip...was she in black face as she delivered this performance. What an insulting and condescending creature.

And yet, I am commissioned to pray for her. It is truly hard.

Great posting:

When I explained the context of the speech she asked me to play it again. This time she was literally speechless. I played it a third time and she became downright angry and asked how stupid does Clinton think we are.

Best wishes to you Lady

"On March 4, 2007, Senator Hillary Clinton recited lyrics from the song "Can't Give Up Now" at a predominately black church in Selma Alabama on the anniversary of the famous march over the bridge in Selma, AL. Senator Clinton was criticized for using a fake southern black dialect in her attempt to woo the black vote from Senator Barack Hussein Obama who was campaigning for president simultaneously in Selma, AL. at the time."

My 11 year old son heard this clip this morning on Fox. In his immortal words, "why doesn't somebody put a cork in her mouth?"

Out of the mouths of babes.

I can't believe that you actually heard the clip. That wasn't a Southern accent - it was more like a second grade student trying to imitate a Civil War era Southern Black. It was totally condescending.
