Ann Coulter Fires Back at Critics Over John Edwards 'Faggot' Barb

Ann Coulter fired back at critics who demanded the conservative columnist apologize for comments she made during a speech in which she referred to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards as a "faggot."

"'Faggot isn't offensive to gays; it has nothing to do with gays," Coulter said on "Hannity and Colmes" Monday night. "It's a schoolyard taunt meaning 'wuss,' and unless you're telling me that John Edwards is gay, it was not applied to a gay person."

...I couldn't disagree more. The term "faggot" is a guy to guy term that means "wuss", "pansy", "dork". And if you think that she owes anyone an apology after what the media has done to conservatives over the years than you too are part of the problem. Dems don't play fair and never will. I say, the more negative terminology the better. They threw Oreo's at Michael Steele in Md. Could that be countered by calling Jesse and Al "niggers"? I see justice and a willingness to fight back on their territory. Ann Coulter seems to be alone in her fight.

I agree. Good for Ann. In any case, to get into a frenzy over what she said is so incredibly absurd. But the Thought Police are in panic that she might set a trend and those they had previously silenced will start speaking their minds.

What Edwards' bloggers wrote was far worse. What Ann has been falsely been accused of has been far worse. One can disagree with her, but the reaction to this is over the top censorship.

I think the main thing she did with her comment was smoke out the three top GOP contenders and complete wusses. If they can't stand up for themselves against media attacks based on what someone else said, how will they fair down the road when they make their own gaffs?

I live in the ciy and hear the word all the time used by schoolkids. It is not a throw-down word which causes spontaneous violence. Used by both girls and boys, it is a simple chide when a deviation from the orthodox attitude of the groupthink. Utter an appreciation for your history teacher and it solicits a nearly automatic response, "You are such a faggot." Parents won't let you go to the mall on Saturday? "What a fag, you gotta be there!"
Nine out of ten such usages, probably, are not a genuine comment on one's sexuality. It is simply part of the modern day lexicon of tweens and older.
