She didn't compare herself to Anne Frank. She compared the importance of the message within her book to the importance of the message in the diary written by Anne. That seems fair. Nazis killed millions and so has AIDS. Every author wants their work to be well-received and to have an impact on the lives of those who read it. I think it is fair to make such speculative comparisons out of enthusiasm for promoting your book to the intended audience. It would be ridiculous for any author to say. "My book on AIDS is terrible, go and read the Diary of Anne Frank instead." Sorry, but the Diary of Anne Frank is not the gold standard that every other book written must meet to be considered good or important.

If you think that's a message worth defending, I suppose that is your prerogative. Just don't expect a bunch of support for attacking a kid whose crime was writing a book.

All I know is, everyone is hyper-hyper sensitive about anything remotely touching the issue of homosexuality and it's accompanying disease (yes, heterosexuals can get it too, but that's not why it's special).

It sounds more to me like Jenna has high hopes for her book reaching and influencing young people on the scale that Anne Frank's diary did. She definitely was not comparing her self to Anne Frank in any way.
