Ms Schlussel, take a deep breath, step away from the computer, take a vacation.

What percent of people dabble in liberalism in the 20s?

I think Debbie Schlussel is in danger of joining the crackpot crowd.

What do you mean "in danger"? I think she signed up a long time ago.

I don't think she was comparing her self to Anne Frank, rather she was talking about the girl who is the subject of her book.

Sorry but this is a huge misstep.

I felt bad for the Bush girls during the media bombardment they endured for underage drinking. I mean c'mon, what college freshman to senior doesn't engage in underage drinking? I thought it was a witch hunt and anything to make Bush look bad.

However she asked for this criticism and it is warranted. Her comparisons are way off base and the hubis she exibits is as narcissitic as any liberal championing an issue.

She should be skewered for her self-serving, self-important PC rants. End of story.

"..Presidential twin daughter Jenna Bush is publishing a new book she wants your young kids to read, and--surprise!--its heroine is a teen single mother with AIDS. So much for your kids having a childhood....

[snip]...And Bush has the audacity to tell USA Today that she envisions her teen-single-mother-with-AIDS book as having the same influence as Anne Frank's The Diary of Anne Frank."

Never consider listening to a Presidential offspring until they are over forty.

If these girls make it, they'll be doing well. Being the daughter of a president and the granddaughter of another president isn't easy, not to speak of great granddaughter of Prescott Bush. Just look at Chelsea, or all those junior Kennedys.

Actually Margaret Truman made it--by becoming first an outspoken, independent woman, and then a successful writer of detective fiction.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bush girls make it, after a certain amount of trying things out first.

Someone posted this comment on the Schlussel site:

After reading all that, I rushed to the bathroom and puked. That's how sickening it is.

Yeah, I'm sure the person actually, really puked. Sheesh, I hate this kind of hyperbole. Then again, maybe the person really did puke...in which case I'd suggest a therapist.

I think the author makes some valid points. You can sympathize with tragedy even when largely self-inflicted. But it is in no way comparable to the Holocaust. No way! That's ridiculous. And anyway, how many HIV positive teens are in the schools? How many of them are excluded for reasons other than medical reasons? It's just a lame premise that, like everyone these days, assumes everyone will live forever except people with HIV.

Pay taxes, particularly. I have a 23 year old son who recently informed me that I was right on a lot of things, and he has always thought of himself as a liberal, but didn't realize how many conservatives views he held at the core level. I knew of course, but was pleased to see that he realized it on his own. He finally found out what being liberal really means, and doesn't identify with them at all. My feeling is, he was taught to think he was in school. Now that he is out, on his own, and paying taxes etc, he realizes the lie that liberalism is.
