KERIK KO'D A TWO-YEAR PRISON DEAL (Giuliani's buddy allegedly gave false info to WH)
NY POST ^ | March 14, 2007 | LARRY CELONA

Posted on 03/14/2007 3:40:25 AM PDT by Liz

Scandal-scarred former top cop Bernard Kerik turned down a deal with federal prosecutors that offered him less than two years in jail in return for a guilty plea to tax fraud Kerik - NYPD commissioner under Rudy Giuliani, who recommended him for Homeland Security secretary in 2004 - rejected the deal..... The case involves gifts Kerik received while in office, his Homeland Security application, a mortgage application and tax returns. Kerik pleaded guilty last year to misdemeanor charges of taking money from contractors with alleged mob ties when he was the city's corrections chief. His nomination by President Bush to head the Department of Homeland Security was scrapped after questions arose about his background.

Kerik was Mayor Giuliani's driver and bodyguard, and NYPD commissioner under Giuliani. Rudy recommended Kerik to GW Bush for the Homeland Security job in 2004. Kerik's nomination was scrapped after questions arose about his background......leaving GWB embarrased on the global stage.

"The end justifies the means" mentality prevails here. All that matters is getting into positions of power. To these ambitious power-hungry individuals, how they achieve power is immaterial. Kerik (and possibly Giuliani?) allegedly giving fraudulent information to the White House is one indication how these people operate.

BACKGROUND FROM PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED NEWS STORIES Kerik was offered a a deal to plead guilty to tax fraud and illegal eavesdropping conspiracy charges.....in exchange for dropping criminal probes into Kerik's alleged mortgage fraud, tax fraud, conspiracy to eavesdrop and making false statements on his US Homeland Security Secretary application.

Kerik has already pleaded guilty to receiving tens of thousands of dollars in free renovations to an apartment he owned while a city official, renovations provided by company with reputed links to organized crime. But the federal investigation into allegations of mortgage fraud in connection with his purchase of the apartment continues.

The two skeeves---Kerik and Giuliani---used tactics commonly used in NYC----making it up, as needed.

To these two, the end justified the means. Providing false information to the WH was the way to get Kerik the job.

If you think that was bad, imagine Kerik having access to FBI files?

Therre are just way too many reasons to hold your nose with Rosie O'Donnell Giuliani for any sane person to consider him for therepublican nomination.

Maybe Kerik can get the same deal Marion Barry got.

This creates an interesting set of questions:

a.) If Giuliani was aware or even remotely suspicious of Kerik's (ahem) 'difficulties', why on Earth would he recommend Kerik for the top job at Homeland Security?

b.) Surely Rudy, as a former DOJ official himself should have known that an extremely thorough background check would be made of Kerik, if he had concerns about Kerik's background, why didn't he suggest vetting Kerik privately PRIOR to recommending him to the President?

c.) If the former Mayor had NO idea, was TOTALLY unaware of Kerik's legal problems, what does this say about HIS ability to judge the character of the guy he not only had serving as his police commissioner, but actually went into BUSINESS with (Guiliani-Kerik, LLC)?!?

Either way, this is another big black mark on the Rudy report card as to whether or not he should be graded as presidential material.

Maybe Kerik can get the same deal Democrat Senator Bobby Toricelli got in New Jersey? A few gifts? No big deal.

Nice take---thanks.

We should also keep in mind that Kerik and Giuliani were partners in a global "security firm."

Self-styled "security expert" Giuliani did not vett Kerik before submitting his name to the WH. How safe does that make you feel?

This would be media fodder for the general election if the GOP is dumb enough to nominate Giuliani...

Makes me wonder if he turned down the deal thinking Rudy might get elected then pardon him. Of course, we know that ain't gonna happen--Rudy getting elected that is.

The fact that Kerik refused the feds deal makes one think payback is in the offing. A few of the Giuliani-appointed judges might work a deal for Kerik....in the courtroom.

Let's keep in mind that Giuliani prosecuted the mob including the mafia heads, and had Senator D'Amato's brother hauled away in handcuffs. He is staunchly anti-crime.

Further, Kerik shouldn't have acceprted home repairs from a contractor (akin to something Ollie North did BTW) BUT this latest investigation is about getting the use of an apartment so he could sleep with his mistress. Immoral, yes. But two years in prison for tax fraud and lying to the White House? I think not.

Kerik was Mayor Giuliani's driver and bodyguard

Liz, I see a pattern here... Mumbles Mennino up in Boston was the driver for a former mayor and several former drivers have turned up as heads of Mafia families after the head guy got whacked.

[Begin semi-automated RudyBot rant]:

You saying Rudy's a crook, Liz? That damn Eye-talian just gotta be a hoodlum, raht? Well, whatcha got? Nothing. You do realize that the NY left hates Giuliani even worse than you do (hard to believe, I know) and has been trying to destroy him for years now, right? Keep drilling that dry well.

Wise up and don't put words in Liz's mouth. She never said Rudy was a crook and you damn well know it.

As for the 'New York left', why would they hate Rudy? He's a pro-abortion, homosexual rights condoning, gun-grabbing LIBERAL, and that's the bottom line.

As for Kerik?

A man is known by the company he keeps. Rudy chose to go into business with the guy, and that speaks volumes.

Thanks for playing.

You got that right----Kerik is mobbed-up to his eyeballs.

However, Kerik does have a day job (gag).....Kerik, like Giuliani, is making a living off the remnants of 9/11.

Both Kerik and Giuliani believe they are untouchable because of 9/11. I'm telling ya'll, the MSM are setting us up for the big fall. It really doesn't matter that the NY media has been trying to destroy him. All that press stays in NYC, NYer's and their politics are not going to fly in other parts of the country. I'm sorry, but, here in Georgia the pro-choice, gun-control and his association with the gay rights movement is not going to earn him brownie points. Outside of Atlanta, Georgia is a VERY conservative state.

Nice reading comprehension. Here's what Liz wrote:

As for your ridiculous second point, the left despises and hates Rudy, always has, always will. Stop drinking the haters' Kool-Aid. This claim that the gays loved Giuliani while he was Mayor is flat-out idiotic.
