Thousands protest as war enters 5th year

WASHINGTON - Denouncing a conflict entering its fifth year, protesters across the country raised their voices Saturday against U.S. policy in Iraq and marched by the thousands to the Pentagon in the footsteps of an epic demonstration four decades ago against another divisive war.

A counterprotest was staged, too, on a day of dueling signs and sentiments such as "Illegal Combat" and "Peace Through Strength," and songs like "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "War (What's It Good For?)."

Thousands crossed the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial to rally loudly but peacefully near the Pentagon. "We're here in the shadow of the war machine," said anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. "It's like being in the shadow of the death star. They take their death and destruction and they export it around the world. We need to shut it down."

Smaller protests were held in other U.S. cities, stretching to Tuesday's four-year anniversary of the Iraq invasion. In Los Angeles, Vietnam veteran Ed Ellis, 59, hoped the demonstrations would be the "tipping point" against a war that has killed more than 3,200 U.S. troops and engulfed Iraq in a deadly cycle of violence.

"War (What's It Good For?)."

Let's see...gaining America Her independence and helping create the Freedom we have today (which the anti-Americans abuse), defeating Communism (which the anti-Americans supported), defeating Fascism (which the anti-Americans silently supported), Terrorism (which the anti-Americans supported), slavery, etc.

"We're here in the shadow of the war machine," said anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. "It's like being in the shadow of the death star. They take their death and destruction and they export it around the world. We need to shut it down."

Hey Cindy, when you get your head screwed on straight, let us know.

But war protester Susanne Shine of Boone, N.C., found herself in a crowd of counterdemonstrators, and came out in tears, with her sign in shreds. "They ripped up my peace sign," she said, after police escorted her, her husband and two adult daughters from the group. "It was really pretty scary for me."

Oh boo hoo. Consider it the price for supporting the enemy. Besides, you anti-Americans have been stepping on the First Amendment rights of Patriots (i.e. Protest Warrior) for years, so it's about time we do it to you.

Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll and Communism! These decaying, old 60s hippies just won't give it up. They've just got to have that one last, anti-U.S. hurrah.

Smoke some more dope, She-man. It makes you sound really really intelligent.

In the future, She-man, show your support for the terrorists by wearing a burka when you protest, and spare us from having to see your ugly face when media forces it on us without any warning.
I don't understand how media get away with doing that. They are supposed to warn us of anything we may find too disgusting and revolting for our children to see, so we have time to turn the channel or shield our kids eyes.

No mention that Ed Ellis is a Board member Veterans for Peace Los Angeles.

The group is listed on David Horowitz's DISCOVERTHENETWORKS.ORG, a guide tothe political left.

It has the usual nut case connections to lunatics on the left; a.k.a., the enemy within.

If only the old media would just say, "We're activists for the left, we've moved beyond being Americans, we hate your sovereignty, and we hate your military" everything would be just fine. We already know it and then the rest of America would know it.

Thousands? You've got to be kidding me. AP must be talking about the collective brain cells because the march I saw on CSPAN had about 500.

this article wouldn't be trying to plant the impression that the protesters were peaceful as they always are and were attacked without cause by the Eagles, would it?? nahhh, didn't think so..

Well, around 4 pm FNC was saying there were around four thousand. Not the "tens of thousands" advertised, is it? And I noticed the slick, professionally made signs, mostly in YELLOW, appropriately enough.

How many showed up for the GOE I wonder?

Well it must be true then!

I love the AP story saying there were 10-20,000 in the march, but that most of them left at the Pentagon rally. Yeah, that's likely.

I bet you could spend the next several hours trying to find an AP story on the March for Life with an estimate of the crowd and not find anything.

What??!! A pacifistic, anti-war demonstrator needing the services of a police officer??? That infers the need for protection, security, defense, against PRESUMED threats. I always wondered, if I were a bully and demanded that a pacifist give to me his/her house, shouldn't they simply give it to me in the name of 'peace'? Isn't that what Ghandi suggested Britian do should the Nazis invade?

Well, of course these phonies would fight with every ounce of hate against a Freep Army, until they retreated to their Subarus covered in 'Save Tibet' and 'Save Darfur' stickers. (Oh, but 'f#$@ Iraq', right?)

ughghggghg....

I wonder if the yellow has any connection to the yellow banners that are always displayed by Hezbollah?

A couple thousand, big deal. In their hayday they used to bring hundreds of thousands, teargas and billy clubs. The Baby boomers just can't bring it anymore.

The Left is frustrated it can't get mainstream American support for Cut N Run. And they wonder why.
