Giuliani woos Oakland GOP in quick visit (CA)
Inside Bay Area ^ | March 23, 2007 | Josh Richman

Frontrunning 2008 Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani pressed the flesh, took questions and -- yes -- even kissed a baby at a restaurant here Friday, underscoring how even Democratic strongholds won't be ignored by the GOP in this primary race.

Outside, Giuliani told reporters the House's vote Friday to tie almost $100 billion in Iraq war and other spending to a timetable for a 2008 pullout is "a big mistake. ... You don't let your enemies know what you're going to do."

Only about 17 percent of Alameda County's registered voters are Republicans, and only about 7 percent of Oakland's. But California's Republican presidential primary is no longer a statewide winner-take all; instead, the GOP presidential candidate with the most votes in each congressional district will get that district's delegates.

Rassmussen Reports, Time Magazine and CNN polls of Republican and Republican-leaning voters conducted in March's first half found Giuliani the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, leading U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., by margins of from 16 to 20 percentage points.

Rudi is not a perfect candidate, but he will slay the Hildabeast. Fred Thompson is an ideal GOP candidate but I doubt he can beat Hillary. Either Rudi or Thompson would do a better job of putting the Jackasses in their place than Bush.

California seems to have a rotten district system now. My CD probably has 4 time the number of GOP voters than all of Alameda County. There are about 15 CD's that have a lot of GOP voters, and about 25 that have very few indeed, with about 10 having almost no GOP voters at all.

hillary stinks much more totalitarian, but may "Rudy's a Skank" be the least of your troubles through 2016.

Hence Giuliani's interest in pitching woo somewhere like Oakland: In a way, he gets more bang for his buck here. Carrying a majority of the 31,000 Republicans in Democrat Barbara Lee's 9th Congressional District would win him three delegates, the same as winning some other, more GOP-heavy district.

It's smart politics by Rudy. Campaign in heavily DemonRat districts that like his leftist views.

I am not sure the GOP voters in heavily Dem districts are any more "leftist" than California GOP voters as a whole, although high income Bay area GOP voters certainly are. Rudy will romp there. How he will do in Hispanic or black CD's, with the small cohort of GOP voters there, I don't have a clue.

I should add that as things stand now, Rudy will do very well in GOP CD's outside of some parts of the Central Valley and Sierra foothills. Of the GOP CD's, he should carry with a plurality all but maybe five of them (out of 20 or so), and win a majority in about half of the 20.

Good grief. There was just a poll out today showing Thompson ahead of Hillary.

How pathetic is it that you would buy the lie that a Reagan conservative can't win an election and settle for a liberal Republican as the nominee? It's no wonder conservatism can't make any gains with this kind of loser's mentality.

"Oakland has some chic neighborhoods in the hills."

I would have thought Chic neighborhoods in the hills would go to the Donk's. oh well, obviously Oakland has changed dramatically from when Sen Knowland ran the local newspaper.

Well, if Arnold endorses Rudy and if Rudy is not threatened by Fred, asking him instead to be his VP, choice, Ca. could really be in play electorally. It is a possibility.

The Pubbies need to pry loose either California or NY, or at the very least, cause the Dhimmicrats to run scared toward either or both in fear of losing either one, without which they just can't win. Tying the Iraq bill to agricultural subsidies was a good strategy by the Democretins.
