Would You Vote for This person? (Rudy's Website Whoppers!)
CBN ^ | 3/27/07 | Dave Brody

Posted on 03/27/2007 6:32:11 AM PDT by pissant

Play along with me this morning. Would you vote for the following candidate? This person supports parental notification laws and a ban on partial birth abortion; is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and believes mariage is between a man and a woman. Don't look any further. In your mind, does this candidate seem attractive? Yes or No?

Guess what. That's how Rudy Giuliani describes himself. If you go to his website, that's how he lays out his positions on three very sensitive topics. What about this bleeding heart socially liberal Republican. As you might imagine, it is nowhere to be found on his website. The Brody File has pulled the three parapgraphs from his website that lay out his position on abortion, guns and marriage.

Abortion:

"Rudy Giuliani supports reasonable restrictions on abortion such as parental notification with a judicial bypass and a ban on partial birth abortion – except when the life of the mother is at stake. He’s proud that adoptions increased 66% while abortions decreased over 16% in New York City when he was Mayor. But Rudy understands that this is a deeply personal moral dilemma, and people of good conscience can disagree respectfully. Ultimately he believes that it is a decision between a woman, her doctor, her family, and her God."

Guns:

"Rudy Giuliani is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. When he was Mayor of a city suffering an average of almost 2000 murders a year, he protected people by getting illegal handguns out of the hands of criminals. As a result, shootings fell by 72% and the murder rate was cut by two-thirds. But Rudy understands that what works in New York doesn’t necessarily work in Mississippi or Montana."

Marriage:

"Rudy Giuliani believes marriage is between a man and a woman. He does not - and has never - supported gay marriage. But he believes in equal rights under law for all Americans. That's why he supports domestic partnerships that provide stability for committed partners in important legal and personal matters, while preserving the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman."

If you were an Evangelical who just stepped onto this Earth from Planet Pluto (oh wait, sorry, Pluto is no longer a Planet. I thought scientists were "always" right?), after reading that, you may not understand why a large segment of Evangelicals may have a problem with Rudy. But the religious conservatives who live here on Earth might think those paragraphs on his website are just a tad bit disengenous. Actually, now that I think of it, I'm sure others have a much different word for it. Does the way he portrays himself on his website bother you or do you just chalk it up to political spin just like every other candidate out there? Comments?

If you want a dictionary, I suggest wikipedia.

Interestingly, that's a good idea.

Wikipedia lists:

Now ya see, 'cultural conservatives' are but one type of conservative. So when they say, "If you don't agree with us on this issue, even if you're a fiscal conservative, you're not a conservative" that's rather arrogant of them. That's them trying to redefine what 'conservative' means.

The "only real conservatives" club. ;-D

Um -- so the R party platform is now the bible for defining conservatism?

It's a pretty good yardstick for a centerpoint of such. And one tends to be less conservative the further to the left of the platform one goes.

Addressing NARAL twice is quite a bit to the left of the platform. Appearing at Brady Center gun control rallies is well to the left of the platform. Pushing gay rights is to the left of the platform. Endorsing human-caused global warming is to the left of the platform.

We got one from Jim Robinson.

:-D

I like and respect JimRob. But he doesn't get to redefine political conservatives as liberals anymore than anyone else does.

You see, there's another philosophy from your own. It's called 'political conservatism' or 'fiscal conservatism'.

To the rest of the world, that's "conservative".

Now if the traditionalists wish to redefine 'politically conservative' as "liberal", as some of you folks are so desperately trying to do, don't be surprised if others are amused by your attempts to change the language to your own ends.

Boy, you sound more ridiculous with each post. Keep lying to yourself, but leave the rest of us alone.

Well just realize, this is not a universal belief.

There is this concept you seem unfamiliar with -- 'political' or 'fiscal' conservatism. People who believe in lower taxes, smaller govt, etc, are "conservatives" to the rest of the world.

People like Rudy.

Now I understand, you want to twist the language to your own ends. Now, that kind of person is "liberal".

Which is fine, I can call a cat a fish if I want, it's a free country.

Just don't expect others to understand what you're talking about sometimes!

I did not call you a scumbag and a liar as you called Rudy. I might have more politely indicated that you have (how shall we say it?) foolish ideas and a poor sense of discrimination.

I see that you can dish it out but cannot take even a small fraction of your own vitriol. I guess that puts you in the whiny, cranky, morally vain wing of the conservative movement. I suspect you will be voting for the 2008 version of Perot when the Republicans do not nominate a candidate who meets your standards.

That's how we got 8 years of Bill. I guess you and your ilk will be giving us 8 years of Hillary. I really hope that the counrty can survive it. Whether my blood pressure can do so until retirement is an open question.

Your first point creates a distinction without a difference, except perhaps in someone's feverish imagination.

Rudy addressed NARAL because he was mayor of one of the most liberal, feminist cities in America. Do you have a record of the lefty groups that Ronnie addressed out of political necessity?

Rudy addressed NARAL because he was mayor of one of the most liberal, feminist cities in America.

He addressed NARAL after he already won a second term, which means it was not politically necessary.

Oh, and he praised Margaret Sanger during his 2000 speech to NARAL - was that politically necessary? Nice try, though. You're about the only one who has even tried to attempt defending Rudy's speeches to NARAL. Most just ignore the issue in hopes it will go away. Except the speeches are on Rudy's official record.

If some "conservatives" want to be used and manipulated by a candidate that, of course, is their business.

He was planning to mount his 2008 run without them, but Rudeo has clearly discovered he can't win without conservatives, and is taking the necessary pragmatic steps....no matter how distasteful that is to his core liberal values.

No conservative that I know would ever say (as Rudeo said here) that abortion "is a decision between a woman, her doctor, her family, and her God." That is the classic abortion-on-demand statement which means Rudeo's still on his knees, puckered up to his pro-abortion campaign contributors.

Given that gravity will accelerate you well past either starting speed, what's the point?

Well, my point is that that is how conservative is defined on this website, so the posters here should not have to listen to insults from Rudy supporters.

But, I think you are the one doing the redefining. Libertarians want to push themselves under the conservative umbrella, but that doesn't make them true conservatives.

LMAO! You support a pro-abortion, anticonstitutional liberal candidate on a conservative websitee and yet say I have "foolish ideas and a poor sense of discrimination".

OMG! I can't see any reason to carry on further discussion with someone so uninformed and who has no base of education, knowledge or reality.

I'd call you a troll, but that would require motive, and I know you lack the cognitive capacity for that.

Have a nice day in your little LaLaland.

Why do Rudy supporters keep saying that? We do not support her in any way and it is crazy for y'all to keep saying that. Is that the best you can do?

I just got a call from them wanting money. I told the young lady that I would not give them any until they started acting like the people we had voted for. She was nice and did not give me any trouble. She just said have a good day and hung up.
