Cesar Chavez Day is a state holiday in California. All state workers have the day off, except K-12.

Cesar Chavez the labor organizer, the man who brought the term "wetback" into public view during a TV interview. Great guy!

I doubt these kids know anything about Cesar Chavez. I wonder if they still would want a holiday for him if they knew he opposed illegal immigration.

You should be jumping up and down for a Cesar Chavez national holiday. If you can stomach his labor organizing:

From Wikipedia:
César Chávez and Illegal Immigration

In 1969, Chávez and members of the UFW marched through the Imperial and Coachella Valleys to the border of Mexico to protest growers' use of illegal aliens as temporary replacement workers during a strike. Joining him on the march were both Reverend Ralph Abernathy and U.S. Senator Walter Mondale. Chávez and the UFW would often report suspected illegal aliens who served as temporary replacement workers as well as those who refused to unionize to the Immigration and Naturalization Service. [1]

In 1973, the United Farm Workers set up a "wet line" to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the United States. [2] During one such event, UFW members physically attacked the immigrants, after attempts to peacefully convince the undocumented immigrants not to cross failed. [3]

My guess is that many of the groups who have taken up the banner of Chavez have no understanding of the man, his movement or the times. Were Chavez alive today, based on his attitudes then, today he would be a forceful voice against unregulated immigration from Mexico and a quiet bystander on a broad range of civil rights beyond labor law.

No one has bothered to tell them that Chavez was against illegal immigration way back then, and they probably wouldn't understand that unless it was told to them in Spanish.

No, I'm jumping up and down wishing these poor kids were'nt so brainwashed. They have no idea Chavez was against illegal immigration and won't listen to it if you try to tell 'em.

When we have a National Patrick Henry Day or a National John Adams Day, come talk to me. We would still be here without Ceasar Chavez. We wouldn't be here without Henry or Adams, or a number of other real heroes I can think of!

I have been reading up on Cesar Chavez. I didn't realize he was against illegal immigration. I wonder how many of the illegals know that.
