HBO is revisiting one of the most dramatic events in U.S. election history with "Recount," a film about the 2000 turmoil in Florida to be directed by Oscar winner Sydney Pollack.
Paula Weinstein is executive producing the HBO Films project, which is targeted to premiere in spring 2008.
Written by actor Danny Strong, Spring Creek Prods.' "Recount" chronicles the weeks after the 2000 presidential election and goes behind the scenes of the recounts in Florida to explore the human drama of ordinary people caught in an extraordinary event that would decide the leadership of the country.
"It's a very compelling piece that takes a well-known event and deconstructs it from the point of view of the people involved," HBO Films president Colin Callender said.
While "Recount" takes on one of the most controversial and politically charged episodes in recent history, the telefilm has no political agenda, Callender said.
"It doesn't take sides," he said. "It's a fascinating look at democracy where the rubber meets the road -- a look at the election process like we have never seen it before."

I'm gonna cross my finger here and hope that HBO really does put out a good product here. I think this has the potential to be a good movie.
Comments or opinions - anyone?
Anybody that is still hung up on the election in 2000 and claims not to have a political agenda is lying.
Agreed.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Gee, too bad old Syd wasn't around to make a movie about the election of 1876. Now THAT was an election!
Hey, Syd, Happy Passover!
I wonder if we will get to see that Democrat functionary who got caught with a voting machine in the trunk of his car?
They don't give a Rat's ass about Chicago in 1960. They don't care about other close states in 2000.
They care that they lost the election and seek to rile up the public by repeating their mantra that the 2000 election was "stolen".
Why not make a documentary about the Democrat politician's son and his gang who slashed the tires of dozens of get out the vote vehicles outside of Republican offices in Milwaukee (I think it was) in 2004 just before election day?
Well, unless I'm mistaken, Danny Strong was the little dweeb who was the most irritating part of the stupid threesome living in their moms' basements on the last season of Buffy, when she'd run out of interesting enemies (or they'd been turned and were now working for her or had been drafted to keep 'Angel' afloat).
So I'm not looking at this being anything like insightful, interesting or even factually correct.
Better yet, will we get to see the democrat lawyers who high-fived one another when they succeeded in getting absentee military ballots thrown out?
Long as HBO remembers the hundreds of criminal snowbirds from New York and New Jersey voting in person and absentee.
I am sure the SOB's will be doing it in 2008. The feds better get a handle on it.
Agreed. If Gore had won one more state and didn't need Florida he wouldn't given a rat's ass about "every vote being counted".
The author of this unbias movie is Danny Strong. Here is an excerp from an interview that shows just how unbias the movie will be...

JPM: What would you say is your greatest achievement so far, not as an actor but as a human being?
DS: I don't think I have a greatest achievement yet. Right now I am volunteering for the John Kerry campaign, and this is the most important thing I have ever done in my life. I truly believe that George Bush and Dick Cheney are tremendous threats to not only our own security, but the world's, and that we must do everything we can to remove them from office.
You put your stylus in,
You put your stylus out,
You put your stylus in,
And you punch Buchanan out.
You do the Palm Beach Pokey
And you turn the count around,
That's what it's all about!
You put the Gore votes in,
You put the Bush votes out,
You put the Gore votes in,
And you do another count.
You do the Palm Beach Pokey
And you turn the count around,
That's what it's all about!
You bring your lawyers in,
You drag the whole thing out,
You bring your lawyers in,
And you put it all in doubt.
You do the Palm Beach Pokey
And you turn the count around,
That's what it's all about!
You let your doctors spin,
You let the pundits spout,
You let your doctors spin,
And your people whine and pout.
You do the Palm Beach Pokey
And you turn the count around,
That's what it's all about!
You do the Palm Beach Pokey,
You do the Palm Beach Pokey,
You do the Palm Beach Pokey,
That's what it's all about!
Man didn't that show (Angel) ever die a painful death.
And too bad they can't cast Fred Thompson as Judge Saul.
Comments? I am sick of HBO pushing their ideology and ruining my movie watching experience by airing crockumentary's all of the time. I am this close to cancelling the once good movie channel for good.
Well we'll have to see about that, won't we?
See post 18 which verified my suspicion.
