Michael Savage: The Enemy Within (One of The Biggest Threats to Conservatives)
Self | 4/4/07 | Self

Posted on 04/04/2007 5:58:38 AM PDT by NYC Republican

To those that don't know Savage or listen to him, he claims to be an "independent conservative"... He surely does espouse some conservative views, but the vile he spews towards Bush, his cabinet, and other Republicans and GOPers could be mistaken for Air America trash.

It would be easy to blow him off as another looney blow-hard, but he's the 3rd most listened-to talk show host in the nation... He has over 8 million listeners, and in calling himself a conservative, he DOES have some real influence there. He's supposed to be on our side, but shifts positions so often, he's become a joke. He embodies every lefty criticism of our side.

In listening to parts of his show last night, he has the following things to say, in a short time span...

* Syria isn't nearly as bad as Iran, they can be spoken to, they don't threaten Israel, they are nationalists not fundamentalists

* The war was started to benefit Oil companies.

* Blasted Bush to no end, said Rice should have been fired a long time ago, blasted the rest of the cabinet

* Said it was OK for Pelosi to go talk to Syria

* Asked why is there a division between GOP and Dems, why do we automatically assume everything they do should be hated, etc.

In my view, this scum is far more dangerous than Air America and nearly every lib out there. He's pretending to be a conservative, yet does more damage to our causes than any other non-politician I can think of, because he has the influence to sway people.

This guy is an utter disgrace and a phony.

I remember when the Walter Reed travesty first came out in the WaPO, most FReepers dismissed it as just another hit piece against Bush, but I read the article and realized having dealt with the VA on a personal basis how some of what I read rang true. As it turns out most of it was true.

Thanks for the kind words and of course you are right. I think many Freepers still can't cope with simple facts like this. You can't win them all, and there are times you fall flat on your arse. It's ok, but the first step towards solving a problem is having the clarity to recognize it. Interpreting every criticism as a 'hit' isn't productive.

And sometimes, even good and skilled people take their 'hits.' It happens, and mature people know how to handle it (even if the pill is bitter, I didn't say it would be easy).

Savage departs dramatically from the instinctive 'GOP good, Dems bad' mindset, and that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

“Hunter is a great person, great record, but nothing more than a protest candidate”

Sad day in America when the most qualified conservative can be deemed a “protest candidate”.

Agreed, but sadly, I feel it's true

Point the first, you don't "know" anything about me. You assume I lurk on the Savage threads, which I haven't done in quite some time. Idol worship and butt-kissing aren't my speed.

You can't make the comment about graphics, or give your 'foul' opinion about what goes on the Savage thread without having lurked there at some point or time.

I could care less if it was past lurking, current lurking, future lurking, you still LURKED.

I don;t deny it, but I attribute it alienation from Savage for telling conservatives when they are wrong, when they have their heads up their arses, and when their heroes are acting like morons.

Some conservatives (either lowercase or all caps) just don’t have clarity when it comes to this. Rather than develop clarity, they just get angry when they have to face the prospect of recognizing when they have fallen down or backed the wrong horses.

I honestly don’t recall it. I listened regularly at the time, and I remember him more just calling Israel fairly: an inept military power that didn’t know what it was doing, marching wide-eyed into a stunning and embarrassing loss.

Again, it didn’t surprise me, as i had been saying it for a while.

>”WAR for OIL”. What better rally cry to we have from the left?<

When Michael goes off his meds, his clear vision is still mostly faultless. He may go a litle over the top, but it’s his delivery that becomes.......offensive?

U.S. companies developed the oil fields in the middle East. The U.S. is hugely dependent on oil, therefore oil must figure in there somewhere when it comes to our National Security. But I would rather see us develop our own reserves. We do have reserves. And I am a Conservative!

If reading four threads over the life of my career at FR is considered lurking, then I guess I’m guilty.

So you could care less . . . why be so engaged? Me, I could NOT care less. I already don’t care at all. There’s no less than that.

Personally, I’m cynical about Pelosi’s trip but I can see where Savage is coming from. Indeed, it’s better to be open minded about it and let the facts come in.

BS!!!! Politics need to stop at the water's edge, I consider what Pelosi is doing as borderline treason.

Before you go sending Ma Pelosi to the gallows, what specifically did she do that was so treasonous? Did she say something specific that alienated you so? Or is it just her presence there that's so offensive?

She is trying to give legitimacy to a regime that President Bush has identified as a supporter of terrorism. That is undermining the President on foreign soil, and it should not be tolerated.

When I’m in the USA, I confess I turn Savage on very often.

I think it was about 18 months ago now — I remember sitting on my back porch in rural southern Indiana listening to Savage read from the Old Testament of a King James Bible for several evenings straight, and making some of the best applications of the texts I have ever heard!

What got me, and made go get my Bible and follow along with him was that he was so willing to tell on himself; confessed some attitudes of spirit that he deeply regretted. I admire that kind of courage and don’t think he was being phony.

I think Savage is an eccentric, but no more dangerous than Rush. I’ve heard no more foul things from Savage than I have from Rush.

I’ve been out of the USA as many months in the last 18 years as I’ve been home. I have learned first hand that the Asian countries all protect their borders. The Asian countries know where the foreign aliens in their country reside and what they are doing there.

I’m with Savage on the Language, Culture and Borders thing. Nobody has to be a Savage to have a decent position on these issues. I would not endorse every expression of Savage in these areas, but I’m glad for his emphasis on these things.

You are taking my stuff out of context, I’m not doing the mis-information... I never said the responses themselves were cult-like. I said the folks there were cult-like, moving every which way the wind blows with Savage’s views... Even when he’s whacky and off the wall, the cult there thinks he’s “just expressing his independence”...

Okay a little rewind here, hey I learned from Lormand what do you want? Here's your exact words in post #115

Actually, I have to give Tarkus credit here, he’s a HUGE supporter (usually starts the daily threads), and HE was blasting Savage for the Pelosi/Syria position. Of course, he got shouted down by the cult-like following. Kudos to him on this one

That my FRiend is a total falsehood and that REMAINS my claim and rebuts your now new defense. NO ONE shouted Tark down for his blasting of Savage. Checkmate?

Here’s a Savage all over the map example.

During the last election I recall one week he was saying He would “Never vote for Bush”. I remember clearly because it started a debate with my neighbor who is a major Savage fan.
The very next week Savage was saying Bush was our nations only hope for survival and if John Kerry wins this country is doomed.

I posted comment to this two-sided view of Bush on the FR - Savage show discussion and was attacked fiercely by the Savage fans.

His show should come to you in a plain brown wrapper - marked with “for adult entertainment only”.

Off to the gallows with her?

I find her antics off putting but I don’t see it as worthy of the death penalty.

Savage is a humorist and a wild man.....fiercely independent..and ALWAYS worth listening to. The Lenny Bruce of radio. Why doe he have to line up and say the Republican party line and become a PR hack for the party talking points like Rush? That’s a form on insecurity. Remember, it’s called FREE republic, it’s not called the ROBOT republic.

‘Miller chipping away at Savage’s audience’? Maybe someone will call Savage today and ask him how the Detroit Tigers are going to do this year. Then Michael will get a spike in the Arbys.

Nice try at holding Wiener disipline, it really is hypocritical of you when you throw terms like "this-bot" and "that-bot", and then try and keep people from responding to Wiener critics, or when you attempt to speak for others.

Let these "whatisthetruth-bots" speak for themselves and free them from their "master".

She is in violation of the Logan Act, which prohibits private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments without official sanction.
