As nation faces a grave threat, Pelosi assumes presidential power
The Baltimore Sun ^ | April 5, 2007 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 04/05/2007 12:38:01 PM PDT by flutters

Congressman Tom Lantos, who is a member of the delegation that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi led to Syria, put the mission clearly when he said: "We have an alternative, Democratic foreign policy." Democrats can have any foreign policy they want - if and when they are elected to the White House.

Until Ms. Pelosi came along, it was understood by all that we had only one president at a time and - like him or not - he alone had the constitutional authority to speak for this country to foreign nations, especially in wartime.

All that Ms. Pelosi's trip can accomplish is to advertise American disunity to a terrorist-sponsoring nation in the Middle East while we are in a war there. That in turn can only embolden the Syrians to exploit the lack of unified resolve in Washington by stepping up their efforts to destabilize Iraq and the Middle East in general.

I keep saying, "This is the problem with the two party system".

If Lantos really said this, it's indicative that these people, supposedly elected by us, have no conception of our Nation, our Heritage and will not educate themselves on our Laws and our Purpose.

“The old idea of politics stopping at the water’s edge is clearly a thing of the past.”

Only until the dem’s win office, then they will demand silence from republicans on foreign issues.

Do you think everyone in her delegation and Frank Wolf, Joe Pitts and Robert Aderholt should be tried for treason as well?

Good for Thomas Sowell! He is 100% correct. I said several days ago that it was clear Pelosi was positioning herself for the Presidency, but apparently the coup has already taken place. May God protect us all.

LOL... I just posted on another thread that Pelosi has declared through her actions... that she is now the ”Opposition-President”. An equal partner(albeit an avowed enemy) with the elected President.

"Unless they arrest Pelosi when she arrives stateside it’s all just talk."

I agree.

This is what frustrates me the most about our government, and especially the Republicans we have voted into office - none of them want to enforce the laws of this country in fear of offending liberal Democrats or losing voters. I am sick and tired of Republican officials that have been elected to do what the people have elected them to do only to cower away and not do anything when the liberal Democrats walk all over the Constitution.

We have the Logan Act in place, use the damn thing or liberal Democrats will continue to do whatever the hell pleases them. Have FBI Agents waiting for her plane to land and place her a$$ in custody and soon as she steps off. We have the Constitution which clearly defines the separation of powers of the three branches, inforce it. Doesn't the Constitution mean anything anymore to these people?!?

Can`t this psychopath (and she is) Pelosi be arrested for undermining US intereststs? Oh yes, and by the way, did she fly to the terrorist country in her jumbo jet that she demanded being that she is in her words “the most powerful woman in the country”? Amazing how one can just declare oneself President. Maybe I should try that, “I hereby declare myself President of the US”.. Now where is my private Jumbo jet?

They are “undermin[ing] the ability of the United States to speak to other nations of the world with one voice”. Isn’t that enough?

This Pelosi b&#ch lusts for power.

Its time to put her out of business. The president better get busy.

All we need is evidence that she has caused the deaths of Americans abroad. Give her enough rope, and hang her with it.

How many have sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic?

The Constitution is clear in the definitions of treason (Article III, section 3) and specifically states that members of Congress are not exempt from arrest in cases of treason (Article I, section 6).

Well if they arrested Pelosi and the Democrats who went with her, they would have to arrest at least four Republicans as well, one of whom went with her and three of whom went on their own. And at least two of them have pretty solid conservative voting records, I don’t know the finer details about any of them. But it would hurt members of their own party so I don’t think they are interested.

(((Do the people writing these articles not realize there is a Republican in her ‘delegation’ and that three Republican members of the House met with Assad the day before Pelosi did?)))

They’re not Speaker of the House.

A trial would be nice. This would allow us to see exactly what each of the participants did. We could then determine the appropriate punishment.

The only thing these people have not done is an all and all out coup attempt. They need to be held accountable

I don’t personally think any offense is made more pardonable because you are “merely” a member of the House, rather than the Speaker.

“You jaywalked/beat up an old lady/committed treason? Well you’re not Speaker of the House so I guess we’ll just let it slide!” I can understand more criticism for someone in the Speaker’s position, but NO criticism is being leveled towards the Representatives who went with her and it’s driving me crazy!
