Senate & House Coverage -- (April, 2007)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | April, 2007

Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!

.

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and we will try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let us know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,

Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats

And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

OH...yes, thank you, Laverne.

I had forgotten..even though I did hear Sissy Chrissy said they are having a whole day today about politics..blech.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO...the war, and the troops get short shrift so that the DEMS can all get up tonight and give speeches about how Bush lied, and troops died.

I wonder if ANY of them will have the transcript from Petraeus press conference today...when he was talking about the REAL Iraq...not the one they lie about?? Something tells me NO.

Interesting that the gist of Durbin’s argument is that these people just aren’t worth it. How liberal.

Has the MSM said anything about the congressional democrats blowing off all briefings with General Petraeus?

LOL. Kennedy thanks Reid for his “bold and decisive” leadership. Kennedy has no trouble defending the indefensible.

I have to admit that I wasn’t around yesterday much..and didn’t watch TV...however, I doubt they made too big of a deal of it.

Amazing that the Gen. Petraeus presser was not broadcast on all networks.

Why is it that only the MSM/DNC are able to make their case to American masses? Where is the 1st amendment? Why can only one political party be in charge of all TV broadcast communications daily?

I watched CNN yesterday just for that purpose, they did not report this AT ALL while reporting on the briefing.

Kennedy says he wants to bring the troops home to the heros welcome they deserve, NOW!

I would like him to tell that to Petraeus’ face.

He just said the Administration can NOT say in good faith that we are making any progress in Iraq...even though I HEARD Petraeus just say that, not 10 minutes ago.

CNN was showing it for a while...but coincidentally..when Petraeus started talking about how well things are starting to go in Anbar Province...they cut away!!

The IRAQIS are NOT happy with the bill the Dems voted for yesterday...so, I am guessing they aren’t going to be happy today, either.

Poor Petraeus is going back to a country that will NOT be happy...and perhaps NOT as willing to help him.

I saw that, and I appreciate the little they showed.

But I am speaking of ABC, CBS, NBC, they have the most viewers, and have refused to show any military pressers for 3 years.

I have written them repeatedly to no avail.

What kind of nation is this? When the largest vehicle to communicate to the public about their OWN SONS, DAUGHTERS, FATHERS, MOTHERS on the battlefield refuse to do so?

Aw...yes.

I have to admit, that except for my local news cast (weather)...I NEVER even think of those networks.

BUT, you are very right...because they should be showing this stuff while we are at war..Petraeus being here and doing that press conference is at least as important at Rosie on the View, doncha think?

The public was supportive of our efforts when the networks showed Rummy’s pressers daily, because they were informed of FACTS, because he answered hard questions, because he was allowed to explain things in context, explain goals, setbacks, battle victories and battle losses, mistakes, failures, successes and strategy decisions. He explained Iraqis, their country, their tribes, their fears, their wants, ect.

This effort by the big networks to cut Americans out of information is deliberate, I am sure of it.

Like his rationalization for looting and mayhem e.g. "freedom is messy?"
