Poll shows Fred Thompson a runaway winner (Newt runner-up)
WorldNetDaily ^ | April 14, 2007

Collects 2-1 margin of victory over nearest runner-up.

Republican Fred Thompson, the target of several "draft Fred" for the White House campaigns, easily won a presidential poll conducted by the American Family Association.

The Alabama native was sent to the Senate after winning a 1994 special election in Tennessee to fill the unexpired term of Democrat Al Gore and was re-elected in 1996. He chose in 2002 not to seek re-election and has appeared in several Hollywood productions since.

In the new AFA poll, he collected 24,872 votes for president in a compilation taken just hours before the poll closed at midnight yesterday.

The runner-up was former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, with 9,889 votes, while ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was third with 7,877.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was fourth with 6,154; John McCain fifth with 5,090; Mike Huckabee sixth with 3,179; Sam Brownback seventh with 3,051; Tom Tancredo eighth with 2,060; and Ron Paul ninth with 1,884.

The leading Democrat in the poll was John Edwards, in 10th with 1,780 votes, and he was followed by fellow party members Barack Obama with 1,414 and Hillary Clinton with 1,108.

IMO, the two are very close, and Michael Steele is more conservative than I previously thought. Either should be conservative enough (but not too scary) for the majority of voters.

Thanks! I think they balance out, with Steele being slightly more conservative, but I like Watts’ speaking out about racism not being the thing that is holding blacks back.

I am still leaning toward J.C. After all: “Introducing Vice President Julius Caesar Watts!” is cool. Heehehee

Got any real evidence to back that up, or are you just another drooling bomb-thrower from DU-DU? Please post a link to credible evidence to support your claim.

(Sound of crickets chirping.......)

(Yawn) I didn’t think so.

OK, next troll, front and center! (sharpening knife...)

I’m beginning to wonder if John Edwards might not just be the Dem nominee.......

Do you have any documentation that J.C. Watts has two illigitimate children by two different women?

I’m not disputing you but I need to know if that is a fact or a rumor.

I don’t believe you can use a filthy acronym to make a “good point” but that’s just me.

What do you think her effect will be (vote-wise), should she convince Sen. Thompson to run?

It should be all positive, In many ways Jeri is ideal First Lady material: attractive, intelligent, politically astute, and media savvy. And they have two young children: not could get caught drinking underage Bush twins young, or awkward years Chelsea young, but adorable Caroline and John-John young.

But, from comments even on this board, the fact that she is young(ish) and blonde is used as a basis that Fred is too Hollywood - divorced, with a "25 yr old", "trophy wife", "bimbo", "looks like his daughter" - so there could be a problem with the Oprah/Dobson-Republicans.

Oh. And I'm shocked, shocked that people actually understood the acronym in my post.

Are you claiming he doesn’t have any illegitimate children? I didn’t think it was ever disputed. Maybe my memory’s a little hazy. Did Watts deny the charges?

It appears that I was inadvertently spreading innuendo on J.C. For that I apologize. Here is the true story:

But in fact, Watts has six children. At age 17, he fathered a child out-of-wedlock’ five days after birth, she was adopted by his uncle Wade. She is a success story - a high school valedictorian and college student - and Watts says she demonstrates his consistency: He is pro-life; she was not aborted. He opposes the notion of government raising illegitimate children; his daughter “never received one dime of government assistance,” because his family assumed responsibility.

But beyond that, your “DU” comment was really stupid and so typical of those who have signed up in the last two years. I was FReepin’ before I ever heard of a DU. Maybe you came here the other way around?

“I like the idea of Thompson/Steele better.”

I do also! Especially if the DEMS have a Clinton/Obama ticket. I love Duncan Hunter but, like you, believe he will have a better chance next time. Hunter would make a wonderful head of Homeland Security in a Thompson cabinet.

From my experience, head-in-sand doesn't serve well. Even if I don't like the medium or method of communication, if there's an important point in it, then I'm the loser if I ignore it. But to each his own... :-)

Yeah, I have had second thoughts, myself, on that one. Sorry, I'll get a better one somewhere. I was looking for a caricature actually.

Why does he need to 'get past' that picture? It's not very flattering to him, to be sure, but not everyone takes good pictures all the time. If you're commenting on his wife's gown, I'm sure she paid good money for it, it looks terrific on her, and I'm sure she wasn't the only woman wearing something with a similar bodice.

if that were Rudy’s wife - almost everyone on this site would be calling him a “dirty old man”. that’s the issue.

I wouldn't be calling him a dirty old man, unless he'd dumped his older first wife just to marry a younger woman. In Fred's case, he and his first wife had been divorced for several years before he met and married Jeri.

And to those who might wonder what women like me think of Jeri and Fred, I say, "Dang, she's a lucky gal!"
