You may want to read this:
A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.
House Bill 1572 didn’t get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.
The bill was proposed by Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah County, on behalf of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Gilbert was unavailable Monday and spokesman Gary Frink would not comment on the bill’s defeat other than to say the issue was dead for this General Assembly session.
Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. “I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.” http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/wb/xp-50658

Liberals are expected to be very cautious and super respectful of our values and priorities around here.
Supporting The Constitution is one of those values and high priorities.
Clueless liberal contentions are . . . not remotely favored.

Loose constructionism, beginning around the time of FDR, is also responsible for the stengthening of America into a superpower. Nothing lasts—civilizations rise and fall. Socialism will ultimately destroy the country—so would Constitutional Originalism.
The old Articles of Conferation were almost impossible to reform—that’s why the Drafters of the Constitition ignored the procedures and just went ahead and wrote up their own document. The same thing happens nowadays—the Constition is too hard to reform, so it is just changed through the Courts instead of the formal procedure.

Your 541. Cops saying no arrests. I saw the guy on all fours in custody. Is he now non-existent?
What channel, that needs to be captured just in case. If it was a collegiate press student, we can ask why he was so close to the scene instead of away. Sure, it could be shock... never know. Was he the one that posted the cell phone video re: shooting? If not, they should have been pulled in ASAP. They were pretty calm throughout.

But the presence of a gun creates, in and of itself, the danger of gunfire. It does? I've had a shotgun sitting in my closet for the past 10 years or so, and it's never once spontaneously fired. Same with my carry weapon. Never once spontaneously fired. No danger of gunfire whatsoever.

MSNBC Newsreaderette just said that the shooter had not been identified because he had no cellphone, no identification, and he shot himself in the face to disfigure himself and make identification difficult.
[That was the first I had heard of him shooting himself in the face do make identification more difficult.]
To: Cyclopean Squid
Not really. He was incredibly wrong.
But he sure managed to prove to 30,000,000+ dead victims that he had enough power to kill them.
God’s Word will prove to be the ultimate power.
But guns are a good insurance for liberty. Perhaps you need to add a lot of the Founding Fathers’ statements about guns to your reading. Some are on this thread.

I agree! You have a shooting on campus and don’t know where the shooter is, but allow kids to come on the campus and not shut down the campus with cops at every corner of the campus turning the kids away, and within a couple of hours 32 people are slaughtered!
Sorry, someone is going to pay for this big time! I cannot believe how careless and rediculous!

Since you quoted me I assume you READ somewhere in there that I think they responded appropriately? I said they were not responsible for the shootings. Can YOU predict the behavior of your next door neighbor? Can you predict the behavior or 26 thousand people? Only in GENERAL can you do that, and in GENERAL, they did all the correct things.
Did they notify the students? Yes they did.
But THINK man, they had to get to the first scene, interview shocked witnesses, follow up on those leads, the information they had led them to believe that it was an isolated incident, they treated it as such. They went about looking for the individual. Now if NOTHING further had happened, and they shut down the campus, people would have been yelling about how they shut down the campus for an isolated incident. They have stated they had no reason to believe that anything further would occur. THAT piece of information lay in the CHOICE of the shooter, this all assuming that the two incidents are directly related which they have NOT yet disclosed, if indeed they even know yet.
Now take into consideration, had they shut down the campus, it would have taken HOURS to clear it of the people already there and in transit. this STILL would have left hundreds if not thousands of people still in the vicinity, because the lock down would have simply stoppered people where they were, and its CLEAR that the gunman was among them already. NOTHING would have been prevented by locking down the campus. People would STILL have died.
Ultimately the SHOOTER is responsible for his choices and actions. EVERYTHING else is REACTIONARY, and that takes TIME, it takes TIME to move that many people to action and you can NOT make choices as to whom or where to move those people when you have a virtual if not COMPLETE lack of information. You may as well have locked down the whole city. It would have done about as much good.

Acting on advance information is a TOTALLY different ball of wax. A bomb threat is NOT a lone gunman making random and utterly unpredictable choices. Look, given the time between shootings, he could have gone to a retirement home and done his evil there! There is NO WAY anyone could have predicted HIS choices.
