The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

The shootings at VT were horrendous and I’m sure we will learn of many heros in the days to come.

That said, I’d like to pose a question that I haven’t heard asked yet that has been nagging at me since this happened yesterday.

Did the shooter harbor resentment against Engineers in particular, considering the location and classes of most of his victims? As a person who has many engineers in her family, I have frequently noticed that a great many people really dislike engineers — probably because of their skill with numbers and logic. They are often dismissed as “nerds”, etc. and resented for their achievements. I wonder if this attitude played any role in his choice of victims?

Just asking...

I’m reminded of 74 year old Yanis Kanidis who stayed with the children in Beslan and threw himself on a grenade.

Such men have seen much in their lives, and seem to know just what God has saved them for.

Never forget.

Would be a lot nicer if the PROFOUNDLY USELESS talking heads would look for THESE stories instead of serially ‘interviewing’ blame-finders; the world would be a better place.

Agreed.

Observant Jews are taught from the time they can walk and talk that it is a mitzvah (blessing/commandment) to “heal the world” - Tikum Olam.

This commandment does not say “heal only the Jewish part of the world” - but the entire world and everyone in it.

Not all Jews - just like other people - do their share to heal the world, but that’s not because they haven’t been taught.

This man - this hero - obviously lived his belief, lived the commandment. His unique experience had taught him to treasure life and he treasured it so much, he gave that gift to others.

He was the professor - the teacher - the oldest adult present - the one in charge and when it came down to it - he rose to meet those challenges.

Each one of those students who survived because of him, owe him a debt which I hope they will repay by giving the gift to others - by healing the world - as they live out their lives.

Then they will have earned the gift he gave them.

Rest in Peace with G-D.

Wouldn’t have mattered unless someone got a head shot on the perp, since he supposedly had a vest on.

I haven't seen that reported. In any case, a vest doesn't make you Superman -- a good hit or two or three will take most people off their feet and knock the wind out of them for at least a little while, An incapacitated spree killer might not have the frisson of a dead one, but it stops the spree.

I said what I said, it has nothing to do with “getting well soon”, which is for the responsible to always say or for the saved to never have to say; and it has nothing to do with “hope”, a term for desperate seekers who always are frustrated, or a term for the truly gallant to impugn on themselves only.

I said what I said. Some may argue the murderer was human... and the other sorts of rationalizing cowards the same.

Oh dear, The mods seemed to have agreed with my opinion of your statement.

Your current comment makes no sense at all to me.

I salute this brave professor.. His students are most grateful.
