I can’t believe that I’m warning a member of the Class of ‘98 about the use of profanity, but I am. And on a thread like this one?

...after a group of people forced the train to stop...

Playing fill-in-the-blanks, I would guess young black males and a gang initiation. The media still refers to "Hispanic men" sometimes, but if criminal suspects are black, they wring their hands at having to report the story at all.

I've never stopped one but I've made 'em take a dirt road or two...

I just received a report that the engineer is in the hospital with head and internal injuries. There has been one arrested so far. If I get more information will post.

Maybe the Mexicans were trying to steal his job?

< /sarcasm >

Everything isn’t about the Mexicans, you know.

sarcasm.... weak... don’t be so hard on yourself, I never called you weak or claimed you had an argument. I did suggest in a not so subtle way that your statement was:

a. Lame
b. retarded
c. stupid
d. really stupid
e. really, really stupid, and the spoutings of class “a” idiot
f. Clearly someone who knows nothing about Sacremento other than that people of some type of ethnic background live there
g. stupid... oh, I already said your statement was stupid

There seems to be something missing in this story.

Yes. A .45 caliber pistol. In the hands of the engineer.

Well, the "gun" he was driving was a bigger caliber.

True, but it’s a little harder to point and shoot. :-)

I know this is now old news, but it'll give me a break from the overload of all the VA Tech shooting stuff.

The guy failled on two of the five W's of Journalism

BTW, Google of:
"who, what, when, where, why, and how" journalism
(entered exactly as in the line above) Gets 17,200 hits.

He got a D on part of the WHO by noting it was the engineer that got attacked, but no name, age, length of service, etc.
The WHO of the attackers gets an F. Young, old, vagrants, gang members?

The WHY gets an F as well. Absolutely nothing there.

*************
Here's my journalism 101 worksheet:

Who:
The engineer of an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train.
and
Group of people

What:
dragged the engineer from the train and assaulted him, Seriously injured

When:
Monday night, April 17, 2007

Where:
West Sacramento, as the train from the Bay Area neared the I Street Bridge to Sacramento's rail station

Why:
NOTHING. No history of any other attacks, no social unrest in the area, no neighborhood news. NOTHING.

How:
stood on the tracks to block the train, rocks and bottles, he was dragged off the train
*************

Full disclosure:
I worked for Amtrak for 6 years, so I'm curious about this story.
Oh, and I also went to VA Tech for 2 years, so you can imagine I've been doing just a tiny bit of reading about that story as well.

I had to smile at the Five W's - a flashback of my own education. Thanks. You get an "A" and should be teaching journalism. I was just curious about the incident - it sounded futuristic?

I can understand the bond you still feel for VA Tech and the horrific act that took place there. I'm very sorry.

Wow, that's a truly lame posting style you have there. Now you're taking my statement that your sarcasm is a weakness, and you're pretending that you said it to me!

Which makes me the only participant in this discussion, which means it's time to leave.

I did read that Mexicans often stopped trains in the South West to rob them, and I've never read that any other group of people has been known to do that in recent times.

Therefore, it was reasonable to share the information. All you can truly do to refute my original post is to claim I never read that original story, which you wouldn't know one way or the other.

Fair enough. Of course, you're aware that I never claimed everything was about the Mexicans either, aren't you?

Tsk, tsk, these pesky words, they just keep meaning things, don't they? ;-)

LOL, you couldn't be more wrong about me having a bond for VA Tech. I couldn't stand the place.

I've been sitting here with old CSI's and now Star Trek on in the background, gathering my thoughts and writing down my experience with VA Tech, just to put things in perspective for myself.

I'm not sure if I want to post it, especially since it starts out:

"Virginia Polytechnic Institute has only negative memories for me"

and ends, two pages later:

"Taking a head case full of dynamite and sending it to VA Tech is like lighting a fuse. It came as no surprise me that someone lost it there. I can see how it could easily send an insane person over the top. I witnessed first hand how it sent one of my roommates, a very intelligent, apparently sane, ChemE guy, back home to Mommy. Given the details that are emerging about this butcher, the only surprise is that it took him so long to explode."

Wow - you have an entirely different perspective on VA Tech. The media is telling us that it sits next to the Pearly Gates. I would be interested in reading it if you want to FReepmail it.
