Ismail Ax: The Shooter Was Another 'Son of Sacrifice'
TCS Daily ^ | 4/18/07 | Jerry Bowyer

Posted on 04/18/2007 5:28:39 PM PDT by LibWhacker

First it was Johnny Muhammad, now it was Cho Sueng Hui aka Ismail Ax. Precisely how many mass shooters have to turn out to have adopted Muslim names before we get it? Islam has become the tribe of choice of those who hate American society. I'm not talking about people who grew up as Muslims, confident and secure in their faith, good fathers, sons and neighbors. I'm talking about the angry, malignant, narcissist loners who want to reject their community utterly, to throw off their 'slave name' and represent the downtrodden of the earth by shooting their friends and neighbors.

This morning I read that the Virginia Tech shooter died with the name Ismail Ax written in red ink on his arm. The mainstream press doesn't seem to have a clue as to what this might mean. To quote Indiana Jones, "Didn't any of you guys go to Sunday School?"

The story starts with a man named Abraham. He is the father of the Jews, the Muslims and the Christians. He was born in Iraq, the son of a wealthy idol manufacturer. He came to believe that there was only one true God and, according to tradition, took up his ax and destroyed his father's idols.

Eventually he left Iraq and moved to what is now known as Israel. He had a son with his concubine whom she named Ishmael. The Muslim world prefers the Arabic spelling of the name: Ismail. Eventually Abraham had a son by his rightful wife and named the son Isaac. Ishmael and his mother were disinherited and sent out into what is now Saudi Arabia. Isaac became the heir.

Eventually, God decided to test Abraham by telling him to kill his son, Isaac. Abraham took up the knife, but God stopped him at the last moment. Isaac lived and eventually became a man of great wealth. Ishmael became a desert warrior chieftain.

The Jews are the descendants of Isaac, the Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael.

In the 7th Century, Muhammad, the founder of Islam, re-wrote the story, claiming that Ismail was the true faithful descendant of Abraham and that it was he, not Isaac, who God told Abraham to sacrifice. Ismail was the one saved. For Muslims, Ismail (not Isaac) was the true 'Son of Sacrifice.' In the original version of the story, Abraham used a knife, in some of the later Muslim versions, he used an Ax.

Flash forward 1,400 years: a sullen, angry young man who rages against rich people and apparently against Christians, writes a play in which a mother and son try to kill his step-father, but in the end the boy (age about 13, the age many think Ismail was when he was exiled) is murdered by the step-father with 'a deadly blow'. Father issues? Yeah, I think so.

Cho Sueng-hui cum Ismail Ax hated the American society to which he had been brought 15 years earlier. His play McBeef (a poor pun from an English Lit major on Macbeth) is one endless screed against the corruption of American culture. A cheesy re-telling of Shakespeare's Hamlet, it involves a young man abused by his step-father, a former NFL football player. The son, throws epithets at his father calling him a 'Catholic priest'. And makes derisive comments about McDonalds. It seems that none of the foundational structures of Western Civilization, Christianity, capitalism, family, are spared his rage. In other words, he really meant what he said in his last words: "you (that is us, America) made me do this."

There were 2 or more threads yesterday bringing up this same matter, but will less conviction. It clearly seems to be a Muslim reference, since the Islamic spelling of Ishmael is used. The question is, what else about this nut do we not know? Will we ever know?

The end result of this should not be further gun control. It should be (as Bill O'Reilly said night before last) that ALIENS should not be allowed to have guns. Any alien of any stripe (legal or illegal) caught with a gun, should automatically get a 10-year prison sentence and then permanently deported!

I can't think of a single reason for an alien to have a gun. Can you?

Quite frankly, I think the fact that he never spoke to anyone, took pictures of classmates without warning, and stalked girls are all far more indicative of the problem than whatever he had scrawled on his arm - there is no other indication that he was in any way interested in Islam. He was some random lunatic, not a jihadist. Different problem altogether.

There is no Arabic spelling of Ishmael/Ismail in Roman (our) letters. Arabic is Arabic and the equivalent “letters” used would be those that stand for the sounds represented in English as S-M-L. The equivalency between Arabic and English is rough because Arabic sounds are not identical or, in many cases, not even very close to English “equivalent” sounds.

http://english.bayynat.org.lb/Messengers/pibrahim.htm

When he reached the temple, Ibrahim went to the idols, saying with mockery {What! do you not eat?}(As-Saaffat: 91). And since these idols were speechless they did not reply, then he heaped them up with an ax and turned them into small pieces and left the chief idol with the ax in his hand and then left the temple. ....

Sarah was a barren old woman and Ibrahim wanted to have a son. So, he called Allah to bestow upon him a pious son and Sarah felt what was in his mind. She asked him to marry his female slave Hajar, perhaps Allah would endow him with a son. In deed Ibrahim got married to Hajar and was blessed with a son whom he named Ismail (Ishmael). ....

Ibrahim did not forget his son, but kept visiting him from time to time. Once Ibrahim dreamed that Allah was commanding him to slaughter Ismail, and Ibrahim decided to carry out this divine command. So, he put forth this to his son to test his faith. Ismail agreed and told him to do whatever he is commanded to do and that he will be loyal and content.

As they both surrendered to Allah’s fate and divine decree, Ibrahim began to slaughter him from his nape but the knife did not cut. Miraculously, Allah (swt) redeemed him with a great slaughtering (ram), and so Ibrahim passed Allah’s test with flying colors .

The first wannabe jihadist was the kid who stole a plane and crashed it into a building in Fla. He wasn’t muslim but he expressed support for Bin Laden and killed himself. Fortunately he didn’t plan it out and get a body count.

And just how would not permitting aliens to have guns prevent any crimes??? Is it not an adage that criminals will get guns illegally? How is a prohibition against aliens possessing guns going to affect anything? Why not pass a law that makes it illegal for someone who is going to commit a crime to possess a gun? That will fix it! Then we could pass laws making it illegal for aliens to fly big airplanes into buildings, too.

Often in derangement there are attempts at lucidity. The classics abound with examples of off the beam (mentally deranged) folks who have attachments to lore and to scripture. See Dostoyevski, Chechkov and Shakespeare.

Cho, a/k/a as Ismail to himself, saw it clearly as his mission to destroy innocents to get and to gain presence or stature or recognition. For him the greatest 'justice.'

Consider the quest for virgins in heaven, the Allah is great rhetoric of radical Islamists who destroy in suicide (really homicide) bombing virtually daily in the Middle East, bonding with the lore of their scripture and its so-called neutrality by the dimwitted voices of the media.

Bottom line, their scripture so interpreted, is a prescription for becoming evil, Satanic, uncivilized, a jungle creature who should NEVER be afforded the legal protections we poor souls have developed for the civilized societies. Political correctness is stood on its pointed head. The sooner we recognize our vulnerability to these maniacs in Iraq or in Virginia, the sooner we have a shot at survival.

Yes. Self defense. Thugs down here in FL liked to target foreign tourists because they are not going to be armed. Before the state changed the plate style on rental cars they really stood out from those of possibly armed Florida citizens so the muggers and rapists gravitated to the rentals.

If I were an enterprising young reporter I’d be looking for some of the other English majors who went to school with this nut to interview in the hope of finding out if he’s been fed a steady diet of anti-American propaganda in his college courses.

Anyone want to make a bet?

There already are laws on the books that in theory prevent people who have been institutionalized for psychiatric reasons from purchasing firearms. Again, in theory, that would have prevented Cho from legally purchasing firearms.

In Virginia, however, there is no way for store owner to see if a gun purchaser has been institutionalized.

Here's my hunch: "Ismail Ax" is nothing but a handle/nickname identity he used in some online videogame or another. If I'm right, it's likely that he chose the name 'Ismail' not because it's a "Muslim" name and he likes Islam per se, but just because it sounded cool/fierce to him. Of course, the fact (if I'm right) that a name like "Ismail" sounded cooler/fiercer to him than a name like, say, "Joshua" or "Christopher" would have isn't entirely unconnected from the fact that "Ismail" is a Muslim name and the others aren't. However, at most that's a tangential connection to Islam, I would think.

I could be wrong, of course, just my hunch. I wonder whether people are scouring online videogame logs/servers for whether someone commonly used a character name "Ismail Ax" on online Quake or Warcraft or whatever is popular now. People really should be because that's the first thing I thought of, and the first place I'd look.

That WOULD be gun control. The problem here wasn't that a nut could get a gun or an alien could get a gun. The problem was that so many other people qualified to own guns didn't have them when they needed them, thanks to gun control, fear of litigation, liberals, conditioning, etc.

Its not AX - its ‘triangle’ & ‘X’ as in the Playstation buttons.

Probably the commands for shoot and reload in a first person shooter.

Ismail is on the credits of SOCOM US Navy Seals first person shooter. Or it could be the shooter’s PS2 handle..If his PS2 handle is Ismail my theory is that it
is a “reminder” to keep firing and reloading.

Well, I don't know that I'd toss Ismail in with those other three, but either way, that's really in the eye of the nickname-chooser, methinks. Part of my theory is that Muslim-seeming names will project power to the young generation in particular because (if only subconsciously) they see the reality - Muslims are the ones doin' all the killing. If 'Ismail' doesn't connote this for you it may just mean that you didn't grow up in a time when Muslims were outwardly so, um, fierce.

And in any event, he didn't choose merely the name 'Ismail'. It's 'Ismail Ax'. Whether my videogame theory is true or false, it's pretty reasonable to think that the 'Ax' is intended to add to the fierceness.

It's just that 'Ismail Ax' so clearly stands out to me as a teenager's stupid made-up nickname. To me, it just obviously fits in more with 'Darth Giblets' or 'Master Exploder' than it does with an adopted-Muslim name such as 'John Muhammed' or something.

But like I said, just a hunch.

This guy was an English major. What makes you so sure he was referencing Islam, as opposed to say, Melville?

I don't think he was referring to Melville for several reasons:

1) In Moby Dick, they used harpoons to attack whales, not axes.

2) Ishmael, the narrator of the tale, was the sole survivor, and this guy clearly had no intention of surviving. Why then would he name himself after the only survivor of the Pequod?

3) Ishmael was neither the protagonist nor the antagonist of the story, Ahab and Moby Dick were. Is it Ahab raging after Moby Dick for taking his leg that is the symbolic attraction for this guy (then what does Moby Dick represent, evil USA culture?)?

There are much more topical references than Melville to attract this guy, I think.

Great idea. I saw some mainstream reporter question two male VT English profs briefly on a campus sidewalk. When he asked them if they knew Cho, they looked at each other, mumbled, and the most articulate one finally mumbled , no, we never heard of him. Riight. The profs had that scruffy longhaired leftwing look, I might add.
