The article goes on to say the melamine “may” have been added on purpose to raise the nitrogen level to make it seem there was more protein .....

I read a story where a one -ton- bag of -Melamine- was in the -same- shipment with 147 ton bags of pet food protien from China.
I don’t have a link right now.
It sure is one Queen Mother Smoking Gun though isn’t it?
WTH - Was it a “bonus” bag?

and this in the article:
Laboratory tests on the Natural Balance products indicated that they contained melamine. Natural Balance doesn't use wheat gluten, but recently began using rice protein concentrate, which the testing indicated had melamine.
The rice protein was distributed in the United States by Wilbur-Ellis Company. On Sunday, the San Francisco company found a bag with the word "melamine" stenciled on the side in a shipment of rice protein concentrate it had received from China.
The bag tested positive for melamine, and the company has sealed the rest of the shipment in a warehouse until it completes safety tests, Wilbur-Ellis said on its Web site.

WHY would we buy food of all things, for dogs and cats, from a country which hates us and eats pets?

Maybe, if we dropped the farm subsidies, the dog food producers wouldn’t have to buy grain products from China.

Is there any pet food left that’s safe? Are the Chinese so ignorant that they would lace this product with a harmful substance soley to boost prices?

I have long advocated that we cease all trade with Red China.
The PRC is a disgusting totalitarian state that has now poisoned a large number of our animals, and potentially our citizens.
Now they are compounding their already atrocious behavior in this case by denying our FDA investigators even the common courtesy of simple entry visas.
Let them rot in their own poisoned system. We certainly don't need any more food items from Red China, no matter how inexpensively they are priced.

ALPO VARIETY SNAPS, be careful, my dogs were all vomitting after just eating maybe one treat every few days. It contains Wheat Gluten & has not been recalled!
I tried to report it to Purina, their site has a form to fill out but when you send it you get an error page. I tried to call them today & was on hold so long, I hung up!!

I also heard the gluten was shipped in recycled bags of 1 ton each. That may have been the rice gluten used by another pet food mfg. I believe it said a couple of the bags said Melamine.
