Rudy finds chilly reception in Colorado
Rocky Mountain Gun Owners ^ | April 17, 2007 | RMGO

Posted on 04/20/2007 8:26:41 PM PDT by MtnClimber

Hosted at the mansion/home of former Denver Nuggets star Kiki Van De Weghe, the event was meant as a strict money gatherer for Giuliani's frontrunner campaign.

Only one problem: Giuliani is adamantly anti-gun, with a record to prove it.

Being the first in a series of collaborative efforts between Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and the National Association for Gun Rights, we wanted this one to be a surprise (to both the organizers of the event and the attendees). Rest assured we'll let you know when there is another event.

A small number of hardcore RMGO activists met outside the Cheeseman Park mansion, where valet attendants waited for the rich (tickets were $4000+ apiece for the personal discussion) to meet with the former New York mayor.

Dressed in nice clothes, with smiles on our faces, we handed out this flyer (http://www.nagr.org/Giuliani.pdf) to the fatcats as they walked in.

Thinking we were part of the event staff, they happily took the flyer as we said "If you care about your right to own firearms you'll want to see the incredible anti-gun record of Mayor Giuliani's."

Responses always vary, but few refused the flyer. Even John Elway read it, and seemed to be shocked by the label of "Liberal" on a Republican.

You can read the Rocky Mountain News account of the event here.

Friends, this kind of thing hurts politicians. It's extremely demoralizing to a politician and their staff when people aren't fawning all over them, trying to shake their hand, get a picture with them, and "get access" to someone with the kind of star power a frontrunner for president generates.

This guy is a Republican in NY simply because he is slightly to the right of Marx.

Very well stated,,,,but I don't think even Marx was a GUN-GRABBER like JulieAnnie....lol I wonder when JulieAnnie is going to speak at the NRA??

It’s not a blog. Oh, I think that has been pointed out already.

Some call FR a blog too. So a "blog" is posted on a "blog"

Not an uncommon mistake hole in one.

What an absurd statement. Have you even heard the guy on Glenn Beck or Hannity's programs? I am not a Rudy supporter, but let's be fair. The guy is solid conservative on many critical issues. And there is little doubt he would be a hell of a lot better than Bush on the WOT. I still won't give him a dime, but he 'aint no Marxist.

Very nice. The more folks get educated about his past positions, the more Rudy’s support will fall. Now we need to get a better conservative candidate into the race.

” Keep bashing your only hope for 2008.”

He won’t win. The base won’t get excited and too many folks will go third party. There is no way he won’t lose a lot of the christian vote, a lot of the pro-life vote, and a lot of the pro-gun vote.

No chillin’ while you and others promote the destruction of the Second Amendment by such petty means as trying to squelch the dissemination of information in support of it.

There won't be any of these signs at the houses of Patriots.

“Very well stated. You have Rudy perfectly bracketed. I still do not know why he is not a DemoRat.”

The Democratic party has enough problems without getting stuck with yet another socialist. :-)

“Keep bashing your only hope for 2008”

You’ve GOT to be joking. Mayor Giuliani in his new role as the Last Great Hope for Conservatives? If this is all the hope that conservatives have to offer to the American public, then conservatism in America is already dead.

So Rudy got a chilly reception.

I could personally freeze him out at a thousand yards.

You have Rudy perfectly bracketed. I still do not know why he is not a DemoRat.

I can answer that. The Dems are SO far to the left that Rudy is an arch-conservative to them. He doesn't have much choice. Bloomberg declared as a Republican only because he had to in order to follow Rudy.

"You have Rudy perfectly bracketed. I still do not know why he is not a DemoRat."

I don't go back far enough to know anything about Rudy's "conversion" when he changed from Democrat to Republican, but it has been my experience from either watching other liberal Republicans or checking out their histories, that most reach that "conversion" not due to any epiphany or change of beliefs, but because they want to run for some office and discover their path is blocked by another individual who either refuses to retire, die, leave office, or some other person has a better claim on the office once it is open and up for grabs. Specter's change to RINO is an example of this.

Hi there down in Salida. I am in the mountains west of Denver near Rollinsville. I really don’t think Rudy can win in the primaries. He is a big NE liberal to most of the country.

It wouldn't take much for him to feel really cold here in Idaho. Just one of the many things. If they heard he'd said he was "almost exactly like Bill Clinton".

Can't imagine why any self respecting Republican could be any different?
