Al Qaeda leaders in Iraq are planning the first “large-scale” terrorist attacks on Britain and other western targets with the help of supporters in Iran, according to a leaked intelligence report.
Spy chiefs warn that one operative had said he was planning an attack on “a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki” in an attempt to “shake the Roman throne”, a reference to the West.
Another plot could be timed to coincide with Tony Blair stepping down as prime minister, an event described by Al Qaeda planners as a “change in the head of the company”.
The report, produced earlier this month and seen by The Sunday Times, appears to provide evidence that Al Qaeda is active in Iran and has ambitions far beyond the improvised attacks it has been waging against British and American soldiers in Iraq.
There is no evidence of a formal relationship between Al Qaeda, a Sunni group, and the Shiite regime of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but experts suggest that Iran’s leaders may be turning a blind eye to the terrorist organisation’s activities...
The intelligence report also makes it clear that senior Al Qaeda figures in the region have been in recent contact with operatives in Britain.
The report was compiled by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Center (JTAC) — based at MI5’s London headquarters...
The document states: “While networks linked to AQ [Al Qaeda] Core pose the greatest threat to the UK, the intelligence during this quarter has highlighted the potential threat from other areas, particularly AQI [Al Qaeda in Iraq]...”
The report says there is “no indication” this attack would specifically target Britain, “although we are aware that AQI networks are active in the UK”.
The Home Office declined to comment.

Spy Chiefs? Please. It’s not that I don’t believe such things are being plotted, I just object to more unnamed intelligence sources.
Capitualation, at least by the politicians.
In the UK the vitims families would get a book deal and in the US the democrats would declare defeat and offer an unconditional surrender.
Not sure how the UK will react, but I’d send a message to Ahmedramalamadingdong saying: “If al-Quaida hits us, we hit you with 2x the damage. And if it’s with any WMD, you will see a white hot flash in Tehran.”

Besides, if the cowards were to do this they know full-well that Dubya would take it as a green-light, which is exactly why they won't.

That being said, they are overdue for a significant terrorist attack. Was Spain the last one? Does the London bus bombing count?
If their words are meant to strike fear in us, then hear this! Let, their plans fall upon their own heads just like the evil plans of Haman did! Let their resistance melt like wax before a people who will bow their knee to the One True God! Let their plans be exposed in the light what they have planned in darkness. They are a shadow and we will not fear a shadow that cannot bite! Let us fast and pray and seek the face of the Lord our God. We are already victorious!

If you think that AQ isn’t waiting to see which party takes the White House in 2008, you are living in a fool’s paradise.
You can’t profile, that’s wrong. Just because a British mooslim travels to a terrorist supporting nation, stays for a few months, and returns to the UK with a tan is NO reason to question it. What are some sort of racist nut? Perhaps we need to investigate you. Better yet, we will lock you up to make sure our society is safe for our diverse population. You sicko. At this point, being locked up may be the only safe place to be. :-)
It’s not the UK. It’s New York and Rome. Those are the two highest priority targets. But I believe they are still a couple years away from attempting both.

I disagree—their will always be an England. The present leaders may be jelly livered but the Brits are a tough and vindictive people. They have many allies all over the planet.Just look into the eyes of a Football Fan at a match or see the face of a veteran at an event. No, England isn’t going to fall to a bunch of 3rd world Muslims.
