Amaechi says '95 percent' of feedback positive

DENVER -- When John Amaechi told the world he was gay, he steeled himself for a torrent of negativity that never really materialized, the former pro basketball player told the Republican Party's largest gay organization Saturday.

"I underestimated America. I braced myself for the wrath of a nation under God," Amaechi said at the Log Cabin Republicans' annual convention. "I imagined that it would be a firestorm, that it would be some insane number of letters demanding my deportation or my death.

"And in fact, 95 percent of the correspondence I've had have been overwhelmingly supportive and positive," Amaechi said. "But I will say that the 5 percent that I've had have been unbelievably, viscerally, frighteningly negative."

Why do homosexuals think the world pays so much attention to them? It must be part of the syndrome...

The gay basketball team better not have an un-PC logo.

John, it’s simple. You were a scrub. Just about nobody knew who you were until you came out. I certainly didn’t. Even after you came out, I’d venture that most people, even most of the NBA fans, still asked “Who?” I certainly did. Get over yourself.

This guy's got guts. Not for outing himself as gay, but for speaking to a group of Republicans.

John, you fartknocker—”locking a**holes” under the boards is just an expression.
And that whole `dribbling before you shoot’ thing . . . let’s knock that off as well.
Finally, do us all a favor and shower at home.

"I haven't watched a professional basketball game in three, maybe four years," he said. "And it's not because I hate the NBA or I harbor any kind of [resentment]. None of that. It's just that Saturday afternoon, I can think of something better to do."

Something we agree on.

Yes, but they're still Republicans.

Anybody who isn’t supporting him 1) Doesn’t know where the hell he is to write in disapproval of his ‘gayness’, and 2) Doesn’t give a crap enough to waste their time on his existence.

The guy made millions of dollars and yet still believes he is a freakin’ victim!! Geez!!! Grow a set, will ya??!!?

Yes, but they're still Republicans.

They are a single issue group pressing the homosexual agenda. They don't give a damn about tax cuts, Iraq, or stopping illegal immigration. It was fear of upsetting gays and in particular the 'Log Cabin Republicans' that kept the GOP from removing Mark Foley (remember him?, he was a Republican too).

Why does he think anyone cares about his sex life? His 15 minutes should be over any time now.

People in general don’t care what people do in the privacy of their homes if is isn’t hurting anyone else. THEY JUST DON”T CARE.

It is when they bring it into the public arena and try to force legislative approval of their sexual practices and the accompanying societal approval of their sexual practices down people’s throats that people get pissed off about it.

People just don’t care what homosexuals do with and to each other.

Great question. It always seems to be, "Me me me me me me me" with some of them.
