GIULIANI URGES CLINTON TO RELEASE ISRAELI SPY (1999, Jonathan Pollard)
Times Union | Sep 29, 1999 | Stewart M. Powell

Posted on 05/06/2007 11:57:38 AM PDT by calcowgirl

WASHINGTON -- New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani urged President Clinton Tuesday to free convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, a move that could boost Jewish support for the Republican's prospective Senate campaign -- and complicate a possible run in 2000 by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

...

Regarding Pollard, Giuliani said the Israeli deserves presidential clemency because the life sentence for espionage given him in 1987 goes "way beyond" sentences given in the past to American citizens convicted of spying for a U.S. ally.

Pollard, a former civilian U.S. Navy intelligence analyst, has already served a longer prison term than enemy spies who are routinely traded by their governments, according to Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor and associate attorney general in the Justice Department.

"It seems to me that there was an appropriate basis on which the President could exercise his discretion and cut that particular sentence," Giuliani said, adding that Pollard has "served much more than anyone else convicted of the same thing."

Giuliani stressed that he was restating a position that he had taken on the Pollard case "a couple of years ago" rather than announcing a new position.

The Clinton administration continues to review clemency for Pollard following repeated requests by the Israeli government. ...

...

Giuliani deflected questions about whether he would endorse Texas Gov. George W. Bush as the Republican presidential nominee. The Associated Press quoted a top New York GOP official as saying the mayor could make such an announcement on Thursday.

.....has anything been posted about Giuliani flip-flopping on the Terri Schiavo case during the debate? ....... Nothing yet. I did come up with Ed Koch calling Rudy a "nasty man" in a google search. That's about it.....

ROTFLMBO----now that's funny.

Stirring up a little dust, eh? You might want to start making some sense pretty soon or else some would peg you as a disrupter.

My apologies. As the google search results you posted were empty, I incorrectly assumed you were implying it did not exist. I couldn't figure out the Hunter reference. Sorry about that.

BTW, Ed Koch wrote a whole book on Rudy. The title: "Nasty Man." :-)

So are you saying Rudy was there during 9-11? He reminds me of John Kerry telling us he served in Vietnam.

“On 9/11 I announce as the 9/11 candidate. I would not even be here on 9/11 if 9/11 had not happened.

I own 9/11. 9/11 is my lucky number.

Even my dog is named 9/11. And my wife has 9/11 tattoed on her thigh.

I get up at 911 AM everyday and retire at 911 PM.

I only buy cars that get 9 to 11 miles to the gallon.

9/11 is the lottery number I play everyday.

I live on 911 Ninth Street at the corner of 11th Avenue.

I’m buying the 7/11 store chain and renaming it 9/11. 9/11 will be forever embedded in the memory of 9/11
post-America.

I shall make 9/11 a national holiday....that’s why I’m running.”

I actually took a bit of issue with that remark as well, but found it to be an interesting article otherwise.

I hear 911 Rudy will wear his Ground Zero oxygen mask when he addresses the Repub convention------after all, soldier Kerry "saluted" the Dims.

Really SJB, you are so intolerant and uncompassionate------you REALLY want Nagin to give up his showroom model powder blue Escalade, don't you?

Maybe we will see someone slip some laughing gas into his mask. Better yet, some Sodium Pentothal. Maybe he will tell the truth for once.
