FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

Honoring Canteens

Join us as we take a look back in history at some Canteens. A look at who and what made up the Canteens of the past.

There are two types of Canteens. One is

But, the kind we'll be discussing here will be this:

Wikipedia lists Cafeteria when you search for Canteen as a place:

** A cafeteria is a type of food service location in which there is no table service, whether a restaurant or within an institution such as a large office building or school; a school dining location is also referred to as a canteen or dining hall. Cafeterias are different from coffeehouses, although that is the Spanish origin of the American word.

One of the most outstanding volunteer efforts in history were the track side canteens for servicemen and women at the railroad stations around the United States during World War II. Citizens at over 125 cities around the United States operated track side free canteens for the soldiers, sailors, marines and aviators in WWII. They provided dedicated service to millions of troops passing through on trains.

Volunteers greeted soldiers on every train with friendly smiles, welcoming words, and baskets filled with food and other treats during the brief moments their train paused at the railroad station. Service men and women could get sandwiches, pies, cookies, cakes, coffee, milk, magazines, newspapers, writing paper and sundry items, all free, and all donated by residents in their respective communities and immediate region. At Towns like Reno, Nevada; North Platte, Nebraska; Bellefontaine, Ohio; Lima, Ohio; Troy, Ohio; Clinton, Iowa and Connellsville, Pennsylvania, local groups recognized a greater need to provide a little food, a few moments of comfort and distraction at track side.

In the weeks ahead, we'll take a look at some of these Canteens. Canteens who were there for the morale and welfare of our military in time of war. And, the people who made personal sacrifices to be there for those military. To give back to those who gave so much.

So, please join us and discover what it means to be a Canteen.

SPEM Prayer

READ: Ephesians 3:14-21

I bow my knees to the Father . . . that He would grant you . . . to be strengthened with might through His Spirit. —Ephesians 3:14,16

A friend sent me an e-mail that concluded with a list of prayer requests. She said, “Spiritually, I am confused, so pray for understanding. Physically, I am tired, so pray for rest. Emotionally, I am very weak, so pray for strength. Mentally, I am worried, so pray for peace.”

When I saw her later, I told her, “I’ve been SPEM praying for you.” She looked confused, so I told her I was praying for her spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Scripture illustrates God’s care in each of these areas.

Spiritual: Jesus prayed for His disciples: “Sanctify them by Your truth” (John 17:17). Truth leads to spiritual understanding, eliminating confusion.

Physical: Peter had a physical need—release from jail. His friends prayed—and he got out (Acts 12:1-11). In God’s care we find security and rest (Ps. 16:9).

Emotional: Often the psalmists asked God for relief from distress (4:1; 18:6; 107:6-7). He brings hope.

Mental: Insight and wisdom are promised for those who cry out to God (Prov. 2:3-6; James 1:5-7). Through prayer and reading His Word, the peace of God can be found.

Are you struggling? Ask God for spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental assistance.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer! —Scriven

Turn your cares into prayers.

Good evening, beachy....I was out on errands and remembered I HAD to be at my computer at 5pm.....I really lose track of time on the weekends. So I came home. LOL! I didn't finish boxes yesterday, so need to go to the airport po this evening.

It has been warm all weekend....but I wish it would rain. I did get a start on my "reorganization plan"....and the great paper chase got some action, too. Howzabout you?

But, I’ll be back first thing in the morning.

Well, we had a rainy Saturday, but I did some house cleaning. Then I got to watch Kylie while her mom ran an errand. Today was nicer, but windy and chilly. Had to turn the heat back on as it’s already down to mid-50s.

It’s back to work for me tomorrow, so I’ll have to leave here pretty soon.

But, I’ll be back first thing.
