Byrd is really a racist although I doubt he has felt any real animosity toward black people for many years. I don’t know about Lott, but while I have a very low opinion of Lott, no fair person could possibily condemn him for a careless remark and ignore Byrd’s constant slips. But the lust for power sweeps away any chance of fairness. Lott should never have been knocked out of his leadership role for what he did and for Bush to have collaborated in this act was unseemly. Now he is reaping the benefit. Lott is not going to do one thing to help Bush.

Hey how about Al Gore? Have you read any of his White House history. He wouldn’t allow any Black Secret Service on his protection detail. Actually, the role Thompson was playing was that of an unprincipled conman who was fleecing ignorant racists out of their ca$h by peddling racist lit and products. In the final episode of the series, the Rev. Pooley (or whatever his name was) admitted his only ideology was making a quick buck, and that racists were simply easy marks.
