Well, it was bound to happen. The Democrats have unleashed their goons against Fred Thompson. And guess what they are highlighting?!
Yes, Fred Thompson played a racist on television back in the 1980's and . . . wait for it . . . Fred dated a lot when he was single -- during the Clinton administration. Ooohhhhhhh! How dare he. I mean, during that time, anybody who was anybody was putting cigars in places cigars aren't suppose to go while with White House interns!
Of course the most telling one is that the Democrats take serious issue with this statement by Fred:
"Mexican leaders apparently have an economic policy based on exporting their own citizens, while complaining about US immigration policies that are far less exclusionary than their own. The French jail perfectly nice people for politically incorrect comments, but scold us for holding terrorists at Guantanamo. Russia, though, takes the cake. Here is a government apparently run by ex-KGB agents who have no problem blackmailing whole countries by turning the crank on their oil pipelines. They're not doing anything shady, they say. They cant help it if their opponents are so notoriously accident-prone. Criticize these guys and you might accidentally drink a cup of tea laced with a few million dollars worth of deadly, and extremely rare, radioactive poison. Oppose the Russian leadership, and you could trip and fall off a tall building or stumble into the path of a bullet."
That the Democrats don't like that should tell you everything you wanted to know about why they shouldn't be in the White House.
TV Producer Stephen Cannel told the LA Times if the racism attack "is all they can find to say about him, then they've hit a new low." I guess it's official then -- the Dems have hit a new low.

It’s a good sign. And better to have the Dems throw their punches now than later.

Good news. Fred now qualifies for the Sheets Byrd Lifetime Achievement Award in Acting. I beg to differ in your analysis sir. As an actor Fred Thompson played a very convincing role as a bigoted, vengeful, hate filled racist. The Democrat Senator from West Virgina is not an actor but he was very convincing in his statements and writings that were bigoted, vengeful, hate filled and racist. He wrote these statements and acted on these statements as a young man in the KLU KLUX KLAN and the KLAN is not a benevolent social club. As an old man and the Senior Senator of the Democrat Party he on public television repeated some of the most racists statements every heard by the Senate. "I have known White (insert the N Word Here) is what that racist ex Klu Klax Klan Democrat Senior Senator said. It was not a mistake of speech as he repeated it more than once.
Fred Thompson scares the hell out of the Democrats because he is a conservative that has the ability to communicate with the American People like President Reagan did.

And it's not just the Dems that are scared Mittless, my friend. Jason writes on
postpolitical:
"It took nervous Three Amigo supporters exactly one day after his first appearance before personally attacking Fred Thompson. Still a non-candidate, his name is being dragged through the mud in hopes of shattering momentum. To replace it, were all apparently supposed to unite behind Mitt Romney now..."
"There is an interesting angle in which Freds foes are now choosing their attacks, 'hes boring'. This is an unpredicted approach, being as though Thompson is probably the most captivating politician that I have seen in years, and it is currently being echoed throughout various conservative circles today."
"Novak, who accompanied Thompson in California, has a column on the let down of the speech, Hugh Hewitt (AKA Romneys cheerleader) has been dissing it all day (I think Hugh said Romney 40 times in 40 seconds at one point), and even Michael Medved, the popular conservative talk show host out of Seattle (who I normally admire and agree with) dedicated his entire show to discussing how 'un-Reagan' and 'squandered' Thompsons speech was the other night. This has prompted various reports, such as Drudge and Fox News, to echo such comments in their own reports, creating a chain reaction of bad press for Thompson."
"Look, to all of the critics of Fridays speech, chill out! Was this filled with red meat? No. Does Thompson have the ability to attack? Yes
go read some of his latest Paul Harvey commentary statements, where he attacks Europe, challenges the government of Mexico to stop deporting illegals here, and pokes fun at global warming. This was the first of many planned speeches, and Thompson will clearly seek to address specific positions on issues in due time. This was not a time for specifics, but more a reintroduction of the man."
"I personally felt that the speech was a well-thought out example of a conservative statesmen giving a bipartisan talk about the dangers of the future. It was totally appropriate for its setting, and well continue to follow the camp as questions start to heat up."

McCain and Rudy were running for many months before they officially declared. The hard-hitting tone of Thompson’s remarks make it pretty clear he intends to.

"Is it true what I heard today? Fred wont announce until July?" It ought to be plenty of time. These long campaigns are stupid and detrimental to getting good candidates.
I'm hoping some state out there takes this idiotic "earlier than thou crap" to its logical end by holding their primary 24 months before the general election. --Just to force some intelligent reform of this undemocratic system where Iowa and New Hampshire choose our candidates for us. It might be one of the few issues where you could get bi-partisan support for something.
