Red Dawn scenario

Posted on 05/10/2007 2:57:33 PM PDT by wastedyears

Don't know how many people have seen this movie, but what are your thoughts on something like it happening? If so, who would be involved? Also, how easy or hard would it be to fight them back, taking into consideration their manpower?

And 1984 was only a book.

Jennifer Grey let him down this time.

The final straw with the Russian and Cuban invaders:

They put "Baby" in a corner.

The USA is a pretty big place. Kind of difficult to take it over and maintain authority across the fruited plain.

Contrast Red Dawn w/today’s “reality” — our troops in war zones being forced to carry unloaded weapons...???

“The TV show Jericho would be a better question.
Anybody watch this grat show?”

We do at my house. I refer to it as ‘this is how liberals would try to survive’....(chuckle)

It took how many dead citizens before everybody picked up guns?

That is still one of my favorite movies. Technically, I don't know if it would be a realistic scenario, but the impetus for freedom was very clear.

“I love the premise but it still bugs me that the world of Jericho is still so gentle - the way they’ve handled themselves, everyone but Robert Hawkins is too stupid to deserve to live.”

And he isn’t the brightest light I’ve ever seen either. Even his ill informed wife knew to shut the laptop off....

Yep, and then he ended up a bouncer moving town to town....

I’ve always been amused by those who brag about stockpiling gold and generators for when civilization breaks down. For when that happens, every lunatic from miles around will beat down the door of anybody stupid enough to turn on a generator and light up his house. And just try paying for a loaf of bread with a bar of gold. You might as well wear a T-shirt that says on the back “Follow me home and rob me.”

Let’s face it, in such a situation, best option is to lie low and pretend you are as dirt-poor as everybody else.

Depends on what you use the generator for, and you’d be better off stockpiling salt than gold, just for bartering.

All great points.

Amatures talk about tactics, professionals talk about logistics.
