There was a saying about the town that I grew up in. God was eating spaghetti on the day it was laid out.
The town’s fathers realized that it was time to upgrade one of the sewer mains along one of the town’s main drags & they figured the project would go faster if there were two crews, working from opposite ends & then the main would be tied together where ever the two crews met, assuming somewhere in the middle. The two crews got together before the project was begun, to make sure they were all on the same page. They managed to agree to putting the line in on the right side of the road...
The moral of the story, engineering that relies only on something that is too local can create an unexpected mess.
