PROSECUTOR CHARGES IN BEATING AND CARJACKING OF 91 YEAR OLD MAN
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Deonte Edward Bradley, 22 of Detroit in connection with the violent assault and carjacking of 91 year old Detroit resident Leonard Sims that occurred at 8:35 p.m. on May 4, 2007 in the parking lot of the Stop and Go Liquor Store located at 3206 W. McNichols.
Mr. Sims parked his 2005 Chevy Malibu in the parking lot of the store. Mr. Bradley asked Mr. Sims for a light for his cigarette and allegedly punched Mr. Sims multiple times in the face and neck. Mr. Bradley forced the keys from Mr. Sims hand and then hit Mr. Sims in the face and used the car door to knock Mr. Sims down on the ground. Mr. Bradley drove away in the vehicle. Mr. Sims was assisted by citizens at the scene who called police.
After an investigation by Detroit Police Department and the Violent Crimes Task Force Mr. Bradley was arrested on May 10, 2007.
He has been charged with Carjacking, which carries a penalty of up to life in prison; and, Assault With Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison.
“Is there really any reason to beat a 91 year old just to take his car?” said Prosecutor Worthy. “Carjacking is bad enough but there was absolutely no reason for him to brutalize one of our senior citizens to accomplish his criminal goal.”
The arraignment will take place today at 5:00 p.m. in the 36th District located at 421 Madison Avenue in the City of Detroit.

the hell of this is that this is NOT a rare occurence.....what makes this one stand out is that it was captured on video, and the local media (if it bleeds it leads) is playing it almost endlessly now. Absent the video, this would just be a “carjacking” in the statistics. As you can see in the video, 5 “people” stood not 20 feet away as spectators! For the life of me, I can’t imagine why a 91 y/o gent would exit his car in that neighborhood......

Brutalizing a hearty and hale person is bad enough. But to do this to a 91 year old, especially one who has risked his neck to preserve freedom and eliminate the Nazi threat, is beyond needing a daily beating for life.

I wish I could have reached through the television and choked that scumbag to death. This lowlife punched a 91 year old WWII vet in the face over 20 times before stealing his car. The old man proved his worth by refusing to go down after being hit many times by a filthy punk.

The article states that he was helped by bystanders who called for help. What upstanding citizens to have went to so much trouble for this unfortunate elderly gentleman. Their unrelenting efforts and self-sacrifice are an inspiration to one and all. They stood there and watched with less interest than persons watching a squirrel negotiate heavy traffic. The SoB who did this, as well as they that stood and watched, make a great case for public flogging. There is no shame and yet, there is so very much for which to be ashamed. I hope this video is shown over and over as a testament to both cowardice and bravery. This thug never took the old man, a WW2 vet, off his feet. What a very telling generational contrast.
Or maybe it's more like the Seattle approach, which is no jail time at all until the third convistion, then it's a month at best.
