I have seen ordinary white Americans frequently referred to as “non-ethnic,” which just astonishes me.

One of the grocery stores in my neighborhood sticks all the kosher, Asian and Latino foods together on one aisle labeled “ethnic foods,” which brings up the question of what is being sold on all the other aisles!
