MANCHESTER – According to a nationally recognized pollster, former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has opened up a double-digit lead in New Hampshire over his two closest rivals.
A New Zogby International telephone poll posted on its Web site shows Romney jumping to 35 percent support from 25 percent a month ago.
His closest competitors, Arizona Sen. John McCain, who won the 2000 New Hampshire Presidential Primary, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, both stand at 19 percent in the poll conducted May 15 and 16 with a margin or error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.
McCain's support has dropped from 25 percent a month ago, while Giuliani's remains steady.
Romney regional campaign spokeswoman Sarah Pompei said she did not want to speak specifically about the poll, but did say the campaign has had great success building its grass roots organization in New Hampshire.
"The more Governor Romney actively campaigns in New Hampshire and voters have a chance to see him and hear him speak, the more his message of bringing change Washington resonates and the more excitement builds for our campaign," she said.
Romney also has a slight lead in an Iowa poll released Wednesday. Iowa holds the first caucus in the presidential sweepstakes.
Pollster John Zogby said in a statement "For Romney, this is a good couple of weeks. The real news is his significant gains in support in both Iowa . . . and now New Hampshire. He clearly already has the three M's : media, money and momentum. For critics, who will pooh-pooh his lead in neighboring New Hampshire, he has actually widened his lead against two party icons, one of whom, Giuliani, has stayed static since January, and the other, McCain, who has declined."

Now that Romney has opposed the amnesty/sellout, I expect that his numbers will soar. McLame is toast.

But, seriously, I’ll no more vote for Mitt Romney than I would vote for Rudy Giuliani.

I think he has flipped, but hasn’t flip flopped....lol. I haven’t seen his views go pro, con, pro, con etc like kerry. I started leaning towards Romney when I saw Rudy on TV last fall bragging about how he helped illegal aliens when he was mayor.

Romney’s a cut above McCain or Guiliani, but I’ll still hold out for Fred or Newt.
I personally think Romney will begin to shine if he makes if far enough where he’s part of a limited cast. He’s very sharp speaking im promptu. He’s one of the few candidates out there who can inspire. See his performance at CPAC, for instance, or the videos of him speaking on particular issues on his website.
He has a very business-oriented method of approaching problems that I find refreshing. When you compare the prospect of having Romney and Thompson on stage as compared to past elections with Bush and Gore or Kerry, you’ve got something to look forward to.
So vote for Hillary huh, there’s a real choice !!!
I think Mitt’s edge over the others in New Hampshire is, having a home there for some years and the family vacations there.
Jim, I was trying not to like Romney . I don’t trust anyone from Taxechusetts and flippers on killing tthe unborn but dad gum this guy is growing on me. His quote today on the AMNESTY bill was awsome:
“I strongly oppose today’s bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new ‘Z-Visa’ does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S.”
I think we may have our man here.

I can see you favoring Thompson. Wholly different styles of speaking and personality. Similar on a lot of viewpoints, though undoubtedly different.
But why Newt? A brilliant thinker for sure, but just generally wreckless and irresponsible. He sadly sold out conviction for convenience and pleasure... I personally think he’s wholly unelectable and sadly damaged goods at this point.

Romney opposed it last fall, that’s when I decided him on. That good guy sheriff joe from Arizona kind of endorsed him a while back. That’s good enough for me. Illegal amnesty is my one issue.
Yes, Fred is my 1st choice. The only reason I threw in Newt is that I still like him better than the current crop. I'm talking of people who might have a chance. I actuually like Hunter but don't think he has a chance.
