Does Rosa Brooks Believe 9-11 Was 'Fictional and Entirely Implausible'?

Does L.A. Times columnist Rosa Brooks think 9-11 was "fictional and entirely implausible"? I ask, because in the GOP's Torture Enthusiasts today, that's how she describes a similar scenario that Brit Hume sketched during this past Tuesday's GOP presidential debate.

In inviting the candidates to discuss their views on interrogation during this past Tuesday's get together, debate moderator and Fox News DC Bureau managing editor Brit Hume said the following:

The questions in this round will be premised on a fictional, but we think plausible scenario involving terrorism and the response to it. Here is the premise: Three shopping centers near major U.S. cities have been hit by suicide bombers. Hundreds are dead, thousands injured. A fourth attack has been averted when the attackers were captured off the Florida coast and taken to Guantanamo Bay, where they are being questioned. U.S. intelligence believes that another larger attack is planned and could come at any time.
Brooks sniffed at the scenario, calling it "the kind that most intelligence experts consider fictional and entirely implausible."

Really? Entirely implausible to imagine three targets hit by suicide bombers and another attack planned? Let's see, if I recall correctly, on 9-11, three targets [the two WTC towers and the Pentagon] were hit by suicide bombers. A fourth attack, possibly on the White House or the Capitol, was planned. It was averted thanks to heroic efforts of the passengers aboard United Airlines flight 93,which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Brooks mocked the candidates for their responses, calling them "a group of middle-aged white guys competing with one another to see who could do the best impersonation of Jack Bauer." For good measure, she claimed that Brit Hume "appears to have been watching too much '24' himself." Aside: why do liberals gratuitously drag race into these discussions? As for being "middle-aged" [which I suppose septugenarians McCain and Paul would take as a compliment], the Constitution does require presidents to be at least 35, and even Obama would be 47 by inauguration day, so what's Rosa's point?

In any case, it's not that the Republicans have been watching too much "24." It's that Brooks has apparently forgotten our recent history.

We need to stop playing 'defense' and put out the word that anymore attacks on the United States will result in retaliation against Mecca.

These guys think they can strike with impunity since they are not linked to any nation.

Well, they are linked to a religion and that should be a consideration when they plot their acts.

Comrade Rosa is a George Soros funded left wing nut job that is doing a great job killing off the readership of
Left Angles Times.

&;We need to stop playing ‘defense’ and put out the word that anymore attacks on the United States will result in retaliation against Mecca.”

That wouldn’t be too smart, as we’d then be at war with many Muslim countries, and our allies wouldn’t be any more - any terrorist group could start big trouble with one attack.

What we will do, I believe, is strike Iran soon. The left has left us no choice, America looks very weak right now. Cheney just said (from the deck of an aircraft carrier within strike range of Iran) that the US won’t allow Iran to become dominant regionally. I believe him.

With a sustained round of airstrikes (say one month’s worth) we could reduce Iran to a shadow of its present self. Its nuclear program, military, government and communications infrastructure could be decimated very effectively.

There would be a brief threat to Gulf shipping, and possibly a surge towards the Iraq border (see ‘Highway of Death’). The only significant effect would be a substantial bump in crude oil prices for awhile. That would subside with time, as long as the Iranians agree to terms and don’t force the destruction of the Iranian oil infrastructure.

It is unfortunate that Ms.Brooks was not occupying the seat of the much missed Barbara Olsen on 9/11.

I would gladly make that exchange, as I am sure would many others. Then her fatuous brain farting would not be fouling the air with her un-serious scribblers take on a war of international scale; a bloody war that will last decades.
TV programs (24) come and go (thank God) but villains are forever, as apparently are dumbassed reporters. Think Ms.Brooks ever heard of a reporter named Daniel Pearl? It does not sound like it. In finality. Rosa Brooks. You are no Oriana Falaci.

Rosa Brooks?

She's still angry that she wasn't allowed to sit when she was on that bus in Montgomery in 1955.

(Yes, I'm kidding.)

Exactly. And I've noticed a surge in the use of this illegitimate sourcing device, probably because it's so easy and the newspapers/networks never call anyone on it. After all, it fits their world view too, so why would they? Just declare a consensus fashioned from thin air, and you're good to go.

Ironically, I saw messages posted to articles on Yahoo back in 2001 from people denying that 9/11 ever happened.

No one could answer me though when I kept asking for clarification if they thought the WTC never existed or if they thought the towers were still there.

The Left Wing can not accept the reality of 9/11 because of consequences to their world view. Instead, they deny it. Simple cognitive dissonance.

The article writer has one thing wrong - there were NOT four attacks with one being stopped. There were DOZENS that didn’t even materialize because we grounded the planes and they weren’t, for some reason, expecting that.

In many cities where these planes landed there were reports, one in Nashville I know for sure, of Middle Eastern men getting off the plane and asking cabbies to take them on long trips to DC or NY. Two stayed a week in Franklin, TN and then asked a cab to take them to DC. The driver called the FBI.

There were more than just these four teams and while they might have had other things in mind that weren’t so dramatic and bold, they were up to no good.

Of course I’m sure this Rosa moron doesn’t believe a small group of Islamic idiots can’t do damage. Just ask those in the Baltimore/DC corridor when that whack job and his boy-wonder went on a shooting spree while Chief Moose was looking for whitey!

"the kind that most intelligence experts consider fictional and entirely implausible."

The 9/10 mentality in a nutshell. She must be referring to the 'experts' who dismissed the warning signs before 9/11.

Well, haven’t all the top news agencies put a ban on showing the horrors of 9/11? They are trying to rewrite history before our very eyes.

"the kind that most intelligence experts consider fictional and entirely implausible."

How do these people get jobs writing for a major daily? The previous posts in this thread do a great job of ridiculing the "entirely implausible" comment. But "fictional"? This is supposed to be some kind of revelation to her readers?

Gee, seeing as Brit Hume said it was a hypethetical that he was making up as part of a question, I WOULD HOPE THAT ALL INTELLIGENCE EXPERTS WOULD CONSIDER IT "FICTIONAL"!!!!; unless they are living is some alternate universe or don't know the meaning of the word, both of which would severely limit their usefulness as experts.

Even freakin' Brit Hume would say it was fictional (at this point).

Affirmative action is truly an ugly thing to witness.
