Love was in the air when Senator John McCain and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani spoke before New York Republicans last night.
Both men, each of whom hopes to whip the other in the Republican primary, gushed their mutual admiration and presented themselves as the 2008 campaigns dueling frenemies.
I admire Senator McCain greatly, said Mr. Giuliani, who spoke first at the New York State Republican Party dinner at a midtown hotel last night. If it werent for another candidate, he said with a smile, I might actually be supporting him.
The packed crowd of about 1,000 was clearly in their hometown boys corner. Most wore Rudy stickers and at different times began chanting Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, throughout the speech.
In fact, as Mr. Giuliani and Senator McCains biographies were being read, Mr. Giuliani got a louder cheer for throwing Yassir Arafat out of an event at Lincoln Center than Senator McCaiin did for enduring five years in a Vietnamese prison camp.
Mr. McCain, who arrived at the dinner late, kept his remarks brief.
First, he said he was proud of Mr. Giuliani for taking on Representative Ron Paul during the Republican debate in South Carolina.
Mr. Paul had suggested that terrorists attacked America onSept. 11, because of policies America has pursued over the years in the Middle East, namely bombing Iraq intermittently in the decade beforehand.

They belong together........in the dung heap of terrible Republican candidates. GO DUNCAN!
The old gray whore fawning over her new pimp - Rudy McRomney
I didn't see anything like that. As I recall, his statement praised the enforcement provisions of the bill but said nothing about the other parts.
Too tough on the illegal aliens for Rudy?
Just a few weeks ago Rudy was for amnesty and open borders and opposed a fence in one of his “but” statements.
They will both go down in flames....and hard. Watch for Rudy to come out against this Amnesty bill however, despite supporting much, much worse his entire adult life.
With a weak gobbley gook statement he did.
I wonder if the amnesty bill isn’t just a Democrat trick. They float the thing with the help of some RINOs and a lame duck President. There is overwhelming opposition and it doesn’t pass. Illegal immigration goes on as before, but the Republican Party suffers major damage. Mission accomplished. The stupid party loses. The evil party wins.
*************
Unless President Bush vetos this bill, the Republican Party will suffer major damage.
Found Rudy’s statement on the amnesty bill (he favors it as long as the aliens have ID cards):
ORLANDO Rudy Giuliani said he will not support any legislation to make it easier for illegal immigrants to stay in this country unless there is a requirement to force all immigrants to have “tamper proof” identification cards.
“We need to know everybody who is in the United States,” the Republican presidential candidate said today.
Compromise legislation that is working its way through the U.S. Senate that provides ways for illegal immigrants to become documented workers and eventually U.S. citizens should not even be considered unless there is a requirement for a secure identification card, said the former New York mayor.

Funny, the DUmmies think it is a Rovian trick. OK, so if it is a DemoRat trick, they help us sweep away the pro-amnesty RINOs, and we get a genuine conservative for a candidate. Hmmm, since they think a true conservative can't win...Maybe you're on to something here...!
