Where are the nonassimilating immigrants, and how long have they been here?

I’ve lived in a lot of places. Whenever I have met Mexican immigrants, legal and illegal, they were nice as can be. Happy people. And they either spoke English, or they were trying to learn. (I can only assume that some of the waiters/waitresses we have had in Mexican restaurants were illegal, but I’m not positive.) We have lived in two states in the Southwest. I can’t recall knowing any nonEnglish speakers in New Mexico. I have met nonEnglish speakers in Arizona, but they are all older people who have a little difficulty. I have known a lot of middle-aged to babies in southern Arizona, and English is their language most spoken. It is such that most of the children do not know Spanish well enough to feel comfortable speaking it.

As far as culture goes, there are a whole lot of Mexican descendants who leave LA and other areas because they want a better life for their children. And they speak English. But they have Spanish last names and brown skin. They must not want to assimilate.

I will tell you exactly why they won’t assimilate: thanks to 40 years of liberal policy, they can’t. All immigrants, but Hispanics in particular because they are the largest group and the Dems want to keep them as a captive voter bloc, are shunted off into bilingual classes, classes and events dealing solely with their home country culture, and the foreign language press, since they no longer even need English to vote or get a drivers license anymore.

This was not done by Hispanics: it was done by your friends and mine, the federal government’s “equal opportunity” language and educational policies, the liberal universities, the liberal state and local governments, and the Dem party ward heelers.

Never in the past was any group under more pressure NOT to assimilate.

I called this morning and reminded the young receptionist that she and her kids will bear the brunt of this Bill. I advised her to speak with young receptionists from other offices and get the word out about who will be paying the costs.

Agree. Immigrants may chauvinistically cling to their ‘culture’ but their offspring belong to America. It has always been that way. Assimilation is enforced by the taunts of children.

If you want to make people angry, lie to them.
If you want to make them absolutely livid, then tell ‘em the truth.

Around here just North of DC it’s overwhelmingly Central Americans, not Mexicans.

Very few of the adults speak English but most of the children seem to.

Where are the nonassimilating immigrants

Uh...been to Los Angeles?

If everyone's speaking English, how come 50% of the radio stations are Spanish in L.A., and why are there three major Spanish television networks?

This is true even in Northern California. The entire cities of Watsonville and Salinas are majority Spanish speaking now.

Where have you been?!

You shouldn't use Tucson as an example, because it's an anomaly: there are a lot of retired military and midwesterners there, and Raytheon is the only non-government large employer. Arizona's demographics are still like California in the early '80s. And unlike California, Arizonans resist the invasion. California rolled over. Or at least, the courts forced them to.

There are a whole lot of LA transplants in Tucson. And they’re not white. (or black or Asian) They speak English. They are escaping the violence, drugs, and gangs of LA. And the nonassimilating. They have apparently been educated in LA schools to speak English. While they are more than able to speak Spanish fluently, they speak English first.

There are Spanish radio stations in Tucson. I have driven the children of Mexican immigrants places, and I turn on Spanish radio to see what they will do. They tell me to turn the channel and that their parents don’t want them to listen to that. These children attend the worst schools in Tucson. (they really are bad!!!) There are certainly pockets of nonassimilators, but they are mostly interested in working and earning enough money to be able to do the same things that other Americans have been doing for generations.

So you’re saying I should ignore all the Mexican-looking-sounding (accent) folks and how they are as American as this white girl???????

Of course they are assimilating! Like Miami for example and a very large section of S CA? How about many places in AZ, NM & TX? Or how about the little Mexicos popping up in places like Atlanta, Charlotte or Nashville where almost exclusively Spanish is spoken? How about places like Chicago where block after block of Hispanic stores can be found with exclusive or predominately Spanish signage like in all other major metropolitan cities. Maybe the explosion of Spanish speaking TV and radio stations? Why are places like Home Depot et al using Spanish signage and instructions? Or the ethnic schools that are showing up? Not to mention the fiasco in almost all public schools anymore of Spanish speaking students or the “debate” over English as the official language. Below are but a few of thousands of examples. Yes sir even though many have been here from sometime the evidence of assimilation is overwhelming.

Ad spend on Hispanics in the U.S. via Spanish-language media rose a dramatic 14.4 percent to nearly $5.6 billion in 2006, according to Nielsen Monitor Plus (via AdWeek).

Network and local TV took in 79 percent of the spending and the largest gain: 30 percent, rising to $740 million. Spending to Latino-geared cable TV saw 20.3 percent growth, followed by national magazines up at 14.7 percent.

La Academia Semillas del Pubelo:

We don’t want to drink from a White water fountain, we have our own wells and our natural reservoirs and our way of collecting rain in our aqueducts. We don’t need a White water fountain. So the whole issue of segregation and the whole issue of the Civil Rights Movement is all within the box of White culture and White supremacy. We should not still be fighting for what they have. We are not interested in what they have because we have so much more and because the world is so much larger. And ultimately the White way, the American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to our own destruction.

*Aztlan Academy in Tuscon, Arizona. According to The Race, the school’s success rests on “Aztlan’s ability to integrate a meaningful Chicano Studies program into their lives, language, and academics, as a means of developing their intellects as well as their pride and self-esteem.” The school’s name–a reference to a mythical swath of the vast Southwestern U.S. expanse, which Latino activists claim is their rightful homeland and which they seek to reconquer for Mexico–says it all.

*Mexicayotl Academy in Nogales, Arizona. Who needs the three R’s? At Mexicayotl, it’s all about the three M’s: me, me, me! The school’s program is “structured and developed around the concepts of identity, culture, and language.” Second mission: supporting local ethnic lobbying efforts “to right social injustices by educating the community and helping create social change.” Under “greatest achievements,” the school’s website lists its participation in a “Peace & Dignity Run;” its visit from Rigoberta Menchu (the Marxist academic fraud from Guatemala who lied her way to a Nobel Peace Prize); and its sponsorship of the local annual Día de los Muertos (the Mexican holiday).

*The Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School in Pueblo, Colorado. It’s named after the far-Left Latina labor union activist who recently railed that “Republicans hate Latinos,” praised illegal alien marchers, and screeched that “We didn’t cross the borders, the borders crossed us” in a hate-filled tirade before Arizona students.

*Academia Cesar Chavez Charter School in St. Paul, Minn. Board of Directors member Louis Mendoza, an activist Chicano Studies professor, pushed the school to lobby for the federal DREAM Act (providing in-state tuition discounts to illegal alien students not available to legal non-residents). The school’s website features one flag on its front page: the Mexican flag.

Why do the invaders have prime allegiance to their home country and in particular Mexico?

Texas senators are trying to remain non-committal. They see a lot of potential taxpayers like the Dems. But the Dems see them as voters.

So? I doubt if Ted is ever troubled by the presence of ill-washed foreign minorities in Hyannisport, Aspen, or Cannes.

Several years ago some wag proposed making maps to the homes of the wealthiest Liberal supporters of open borders, with diagrams of each home's interior and security systems, and then dropping them at bus stops and other downtown places frequented by the Unwashed. I wonder if it was ever done. To the best of my knowledge, not one violent criminal has ever been paroled to the neighborhood of a sitting judge or member of the Senate...

I called KBH's office and was told that "we" are going to listen to the debates before deciding how to vote. I e-mailed her with dire threats for political annihilation (I was very polite) if she failed to vote and work against the bill.

She's going to vote for it, I just know it.

If they believe in Aztlan -- as most do -- they have not assimilated, even if they speak English.

Why should they assimilate? They are constantly pandered to in their own language.

They are pandered to in every way. And then some suggest we here in America learn their languages.

A recipe for national disaster.

The little children are being taught about Aztlan. They are not assimilating in the sense of becoming Americans. If anything, they are assimilating into being Mexicans temporarily living in the United States until Aztlan is achieved.

They are not true Americans. Their loyalty is to Mexico.
