Why Bush boggles the mind

Posted: May 22, 2007 1:00 a.m. Eastern

As if President Bush didn't have enough problems in his beleaguered Justice Department, a couple more key officials resigned last week.

One of them was a real surprise to me. His name was Lanny Davis.

Do you remember Lanny Davis from the Clinton years? He was the ultimate spinner – one of the very public faces of the scandal years, defending his boss come hell or Whitewater.

So why was his resignation from the Bush administration a surprise to me?

That wasn't the surprise at all. The surprise was that he was in the Bush administration in the first place.

When did this happen? Why? How? While Clinton wasted no time firing every U.S. attorney in the country to stack the department with his political sycophants, Bush apparently was busy filling Justice with people who were certain to turn against him.

Did anyone else know Davis had been appointed by Bush to serve on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Board?

What were his qualifications? That he served as counsel to a former president who used the Internal Revenue Service to target his political enemies?

"In recent months, Davis has had numerous clashes with fellow board members and White House officials over what he saw as administration attempts to control the panel's agenda and edit its public statements," reports Newsweek.

Didn't Bush realize such a confrontation was only a matter of time? Does he not realize these people see politics as a blood sport? Doesn't he get that these people play for keeps?

Lanny Davis! Good heavens.

I hear Paul Begala is available, too. How did Bush miss recruiting him to the administration?

Not only is Bush a failed president, it is increasingly obvious he's not a very smart politician, either – unless he really has no principles at all.

Perhaps he doesn't care a whit about the Republican Party. Maybe he's the ultimate Manchurian Candidate – a Democrat who successfully infiltrated the Republican Party and became its president. It could be that he is actually very smart and has spent the last seven years actively destroying the GOP. If that's the case, he has done an excellent job. Mission accomplished.

Lanny Davis! Good heavens.

In no time, we'll be seeing him back on the talk-show circuit. This time he won't be defending his boss. He will be attacking Bush – the man who appointed him.

How predictable was this?

It wasn't a matter of if; it was only a matter of when.

Bush is such a loser.

I always knew this intuitively, but only now is the extent of his boobery becoming so hopelessly self-evident.

What was he thinking about?

I don't think we'll ever know. I don't think historians will be able to figure out what went on in this man's mind.

Lanny Davis! Good heavens.

Did Bush think he could win over Lanny Davis and secure for his own cause a loyalist who would defend him like Davis defended Clinton?

It boggles the mind.

Who else is working inside this Bush administration?

James Carville? Janet Reno? Webb Hubbell? Susan McDougal?

Seldom am I actually left speechless by the events of the day, but this one takes the cake.

It's too bad Bush will be leaving office in 2009. I hear Sandy Berger will be available for national security work again.

You can count on Joe Farrah to start a game of “PILE ON”.

And watch the geeks crawl out of the woodwork...all knowing...keen of insight and “I told you so’s”.

Passive aggressive psycotics rally ‘round!

It was almost this fun when Rome burned.

Teddy,
The number of Republican officeholders in DC who have ferocious Democrat Libs in key staff roles would astound you.

There's a corps of Lefty SOBs that soldiers on in DC no matter who's in power. The excuse our Republican officeholders always use in regard to hiring these nouveau-Trotsky-ites is "Experience." If, OTOH, an "experienced" republican applies for a post, these Libs are acting as gatekeepers to keep them out of Republican offices. Go figure.

Just another reason why the Republican Party is AKA the "Stupid Party."

LOL. You would think that Republican officeholders would by now have had enough "Experience" of these often traitorous saboteurs in their offices.

Holy mackerel. How many more stealth Dims are in there? W, what the HECK were you thinking?

Between this and the support of the worst illegal immigration law in history, I’m thinking that W’s priorities are not for America. Oh Lord, that hurt to say. :-(

Yes, I know. I too voted for Bush both times. And to be honest, given the choices, he was the best option we had (vs. Gore, vs. Kerry???). A sad admission tis true, but that's political reality.

Would you have done anything different?

“Would you have done anything different?”

Given the choices on election day, no, I wouldn’t have done anything different. I would and did, however, scream loud and long when Bush the liberal came out to play, which has been often, especially during this second term.

New tone = stupid, naive politics

I think I read something very similar to what you just wrote way back in 1969, about liberals in the new Nixon administration. It was all true then too.

Of course, and remember the 94 CA Prop 187, when Bill Bennett and Jack Kemp flew into CA, insulted and demeaned those citizens as racists, ect.

This was a problem with Republicans WAY BEFORE President Bush, and will NOT go away when he leaves office.

BDS produces nothing.

A real fight to destroy the MSM leftwing monopoly will work better, once those political orgs are destroyed or exposed, Conservatives and Republicans can get to the masses and combat the sob stories by illegals.

REPUBLICANS FEAR THE PR OF DEPORTATION MORE THAN THEY FEAR THE BASE.

And rightfully so.

That and wide open borders on 9/12/2001. I simply don’t get it.

I know it's a little off-topic, but here's another thing about GWB I have never understood and it gets no attention. I have heard very credible evidence from airline employees that there was at least two other flights on 9-11-01 with 5 or 6 'Religion of Peace®' types who immediately fled from the planes when the flights were grounded. Why was that never aggressively followed up? The evil Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and Don Rumsfeld could have tortured them for months (/sarcasm).

But a good rhetorical question.

As evidenced by the Republican primary voters, it seems our strongest border control advocates are not on top right now, we lost many strong advocates in 06, and border States for years and years have been electing governments who tolerate open borders and illegals.

I would say we, the active and passionate base are in the minority.

Therefore would be destroyed when the MSM decides to “turn it on” if deportation ensues.

And Republican officeholders KNOW this, and they are CORRECT.

They are simply picking their poison.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

Gee, Joe. Did you think if the President had all Republicans on the panel their conclusions might get summarily dismissed as right-wing propaganda? Lanny Davis has stood up for the President and Joe Lieberman when he believed it was justified. Remember “a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged”? Davis’ support for Lieberman left him “mugged” by the nutroots. But I guess Joe feels better having ranted ad nauseum.

I agree.

But being that we are an Oprah Nation now, I don’t see the majority of citizens getting up and demanding deportation or a wall, once the MSM starts working on them.

UNLESS, we get to them first, or at least compete with the MSM with out own sob stories about crimes, hospital emergency room overruns, assimilation problems, schools, language, ect.

And run that footage of the first march the illegals had with their Mexican flags, before they started their faux patriotism.

Run ads of immigrants from Mexico, Latin America, ect, who have come legally.

There is much we can be doing, and should have been doing, raising funds, vetting and training candidates, scouting for those of likemind who will work on TV, ect.

It’s not enough to bitch and moan about the President as mind boggling (especially when it isn't mind boggling at all), in politics you defeat his idea, utterly.
