Saint Paul, Minn. (AP) -- The president of the Minnesota Senate was arrested on drunken driving charges early Tuesday just hours after he gaveled the 2007 session to a close.
James Metzen was stopped in his sport-utility vehicle around 2 a.m. after an officer observed him weaving in his lane, said South St. Paul Police Chief Michael Messerich said. The stop occurred less than a mile from his house.
He was given a field sobriety test and was arrested. His blood-alcohol concentration was 0.15 percent, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He faces two misdemeanor charges, including fourth-degree driving while impaired.
"Sen. Metzen was given no special treatment, nor did he request any special treatment," Messerich said. "He was treated like anyone else."
Metzen, 61, a seven-term senator from South St. Paul, told officers that he had three or four drinks, Messerich said.

Most times we have to look it up to find out they are a RAT.
If they don’t list the party in the title I just assume its a Rat.
Now, see, you just don’t get it. His driving an SUV shows he CARES about the environment !
*cough*
I just did a news search on James Metzen and then did a find [Ctrl F] on the word Democrat on each article. You must have picked just about the only one that listed him as a Democrat.
First offense in a DUI in CA costs about $10,000 and a nasty gram from M.A.D.D.
Friends don’t let friends drive drunk. Do you think Democrat political pooh bahs have friends? Probably, not just mercenary minions.
I believe our founding fathers would have set term limits if they foresaw these professional politician’s of today. What they created was a little government with no power so never saw the level of deceit here today. Just one more spin around the coffin George.
