I think the more interesting stat of that “game” would be the fake injuries...

You WOULD probably enjoy the version played in Scotland and Britain actually.

Fast paced and more exciting with much less of the diving and petulance of the European game.Perhaps not as skilful but more watchable.

I posted this news PURELY for those Americans at FR who like football/soccer.

Sad that some here have used to ridicule a sport we already know they dislike(which is fine, their choice).Just sad they cant let it go...

And I am glad you did.

What I wish more people at FR would realize is that business types do not share their views about real football (as played with the feet). As I'm sure you know, Malcolm Glazer owns the largest sporting endeavor on the planet in Manchester United, and Americans now own Aston Villa and Liverpool as well. American ownership won the English Premier League this year and almost won the European Cup. From a purely xenophobic standpoint Americans nearly controlled European football this season.

That said, I was glad to see Rangers come to America and happier still to see they won. I'm a passionate Minnesota sports fan for every sport except the NBA but one reason I like the beautiful game so much is that SCORING MEANS SOMETHING.

Would love to see the Govan Stand someday.

And what is a “soccer friendly”? A restaraunt where people trade ‘soccer” cards? :)

LOL

A game where there is no league championship or knock-out cup at stake.

Keep posting this stuff. Some of us like to follow it. Of course, with me, it helps that my other half is a Brit. So I don’t have much choice!

There were some good World Cup threads last year, so there are more soccer/footy fans on FR.

I think of it as a form of penis-envy. They don’t understand the sport, they understand that we (the U.S.) are still not very good at it, so therefore it “sucks” and is “boring.” It’s a grade-school playground mentality.

One thing I’ve find amusing about the implication that soccer is “ghey” is that possibly the most homoerotic sport on the face of the planet is NFL football. Skin-tight spandex, pads, four-point stances . . . I mean, even the MLB moved away from stretch pants . . . what’s football’s excuse?

What is this “soccer” people talk about?

It's a popular drinking game in the UK.
