KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - In a powerful demonstration of the way the Internet has opened up the mainstream media to intensive second-guessing, bloggers are charging that news outlets have ignored the rape and murder of a young Knoxville couple because of the racial implications of the story.

The two victims were white; the five defendants are black.

I'd like to see this country collectively agree that all crime is hate crime, and just leave it at that. Why anyone hates isn't important, especially when it comes to punishment.

So would I but as long as we have the sharptons and jackson creating wedges and divides, I don't see that happening none too soon.

It's free will. We decide what we will and won't do and accept the consequences of our acts.

Status of the vote:

Do you think the media was biased in its coverage of this case? * 2088 responses

Yes. If the racial situation had been turned around, the press would have been all over it, loudly and from a high and visible platform 89%

No. That's just bad conjecture. There's no proof this is more than a random crime of opportunity -- regardless of the races involved 11%

Here's to hoping the perps DIAF.

Racial Overtones??????????? Not to be confused with a hate crime.

All depends if the victim is BLACK or WHITE.............

“oppression from whitey made them do it.”

I think that will be injected in a line of defense as well.

By the media trying to bury this story it will(hopefully) be a circus. It's harder to bury and hide a circus.

Al Sharpton will probably use his wealth and influence to hire attorneys for these defendants.

I'm waiting to see if a fund is set up for their defense.

just out of curiosity, would they expect the relative handful of white supremacists in our country to not be against this vile race crime?

they are trying to dampen the impact by sullying the detractors by association.

just take some time and look who populates newsrooms these days acting in their own group identity’s special interest

and also note how white supremacists are no longer what passes for racism.....racism today means anyone who doesn’t endorse everything minority ....a far cry from back when there were more real racists around

there is more racism directed at whites from every corner of our culture than vice versa...far more.

i’m convinced of it.

The tone of this article and the baseless references to white supremacists are exactly why people distrust the media. They are simply angry that we no longer pay attention to them.

It's the one thing they have to run with, white supremacist, and they'll wring all they can out of it to try to deflect people away from this story.

The media needs to face a hard reality, the internet is here and if they want to compete in a free market, they need to start reporting the news-all of it, not just cherry-picked articles to drive the people to their way of thinking.

A mirror has been shoved in the faces of the lsm and they're not happy that many people have figured them out. They don't care about this tragic torture story, just how they can make excuses for the utter failure they really are as news reporters.

You're right. To them it really is about me.

That 11% is delusional, I just hope they don’t vote in elections.

That seems to be the norm today. Reversed discrimination when it comes to murder.

It's not only major media that want to downplay the vicious crime.  Compare this Bizarro World statement from John Gill, special assistant to District Attorney Randy Nichols...

The victims were just "at the wrong place at the wrong time..."

...to the prosecutorial zeal of North Carolina vs the Duke lacrosse team.

I think the whole”opprssion from whitey made me do it”is an incredibly weak argument in 2007.
For the vast majority of blacks today, the man who looks like THEM is the one putting all those dead black corpses out in the street.Like the song says,
“Blacks are blacks worst enemies
And you call yourself kin to me
Jealousy, envy,I see it in your eyes
Now tell me whats wrong with seeing a black man rise”

"The critics include mainstream conservatives, such as the National Review, and white supremacists."

"I love how they sneak this line in there, insinuating that if you are a critical of their handling (or lack thereof) of this story, you just may be a white supremist."

It's even worse than that.  The sentence is formulated  to include, under the heading of mainstream conservatism, white supremacy.  David Duke and Fred Thompson, all samee samee.

There is a comma after National Review, but if you don't pay attention, you will read what they really wanted to say:

The critics include mainstream conservatives, such as the National Review and white supremacists.

Unbelievable isn't it? Rehtorical.

At first some were saying they were looking for drugs. That fell through quickly and now it's the wrong place at the wrong time.

to the prosecutorial zeal of North Carolina vs the Duke lacrosse team.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

I'm praying Chris and Channon and their families get the justice they deserve.

Then OJ trial pops in my head. Granted they can't afford a dream team but his lawyers need only to persuade a couple of jurors and a great miscarriage of Justice will have been perpetrated.

The victims did not know the attackers and were just "at the wrong place at the wrong time," Gill said.

By that standard, the James Byrd murder was not a hate crime.

This was a coordinated act of racial humiliation. A vile hate crime and perhaps a gang initiation.

No, it was an act of retribution for the imagined crimes these black people think they have suffered. When told from birth that America is a "racist country," that America is "intolerant" of minorities (yeah, right, lol), it is not surprising that some of the under-educated among these same minorities would act out in misguided vengeance.

We are well on our way to race wars in this country; it just seems that some among us have gotten a head start.

But scum like jackson and sharpton make their living off of telling black people that. Divide the races and whip up animosity is all they're good for. I wish Bill Cosby received more coverage than those two pariah's.

I have found that the criminal types out there care almost nothing for Jackson,Sharpton OR Cosby. They live in a world where THEY never see anyone except their cultural prototypes.
Thats why I laugh when I hear people descibe some off the wall thugs as “Democratic voters”.Most of these gangsters are not and never will be registered to vote.Voting means absolutely nothing in their world.
