OK, why did Fox News have to cover that volcano erupting? As I said, conservatives can't count on Fox to keep the immigration debate boiling. Fox isn't the conservative cable channel. It's the Bush cable channel. Try to find the immigration bill controversy on the Fox home page. (It's there, but you have to look way down. Even then it's spun deceptively in a pro-Bush way: "As plan moves forward in the Senate will House sink it?" As if it's already a done deal in the Senate and only those Pelosi Dems stand in the way. ... )

i watch very little tv news unless a big story is breaking. but i do love lou dobbs.
I for one would urge you to separate wheat from chaff and vote for the Republicans who do the right thing on this bill.
Since you are from NJ, it’s pretty tough, but I’m sure Scott Garrett is on the right side of this issue. Just an example.
If Bush wasn’t walking the party off a cliff on this, I am sure only a few RINOs would spring for this bad idea. The pressure to go for legalization and ‘comprehensive’ has come from McCain, Hegel, Spectre, a few RINOs, and Bush.
This is not what 90% of the Republican party wants.
Amnesty/legalization is a completely unnecessary, undesirable and counter-productive action.
unnecessary - we don’t help our country in any way with it.
Does it remove illegal aliens? No, it just redefines them.
Undesirable - undermines the rule of law
They know conservatives hate her so bad, they will “forget” the RINOs past votes, and vote for them anyway!
They of course will throw some gay marriage amendments in some key states to seal the deal.
RINOs, remember the Elephant never forgets!!
FR *bookmark* , .. Fox was important , .. but squandered their “juice” , .. too bad
What's it been like up till now?
Maybe under Rupert they wouldn't keep reprinting Robert Bartley's infamous "There Shall Be Open Borders" editorial, as they did in the 1990s.
More here.
Since the President’s people asked Boehner to avoid saying anything negative about the bill, it would not surprise me at all if he talked to Fox about it too. O’Reilly is supporting the bill.
The amnesty and the guest worker programs and the feeble enforcement are of course the big issues in this bill. But Kaus/Slate brings up an issue that IMO just adds insult to injury. That is, that the illegals would NOT have to pay back taxes. Kennedy’s version said they would have to pay them, but Bush asked that Kennedy take that out, which I am sure that Kennedy was only too happy to do. (I have heard this from several sources, not just Kaus/Slate.)
This bill has to be stopped. Phone calls, emails, faxes, letters to Senate/House/President are obviously important. But, should also be doing something more???
For a long time, we've been told by the GOP party elite that there is no conflict at all between corporatism - the business side of the party - and traditional conservatism. Now, much of the time, that is perfectly true. But sometimes, like on this issue, the corporatist and conservative wings of the party end up clashing. It's a serious division within the party, and I don't know which wing will previal.
That’s what it’s going to have to come to. I’m already there for about 1/2 the candidates. Of course, I will never vote for a Democrat—even if it’s Jesus—after Waco.
However, "big business" has changed. At that time, their priorities were maximizing shareholder value (still is), but there was no doubt that GM, Boeing, etc. were US companies and were US supporters.
Now, I don't believe that. The term "multi-national" is a shibboleth, but it still describes a company that does not give a tinker's damn about the United States, except as one market out of many. If we fall--as we are doing and will continue to do--they'll just sell more cars or whatever to Indians or whomever our jobs have been outsourced to.
You are correct. When dollar signs are involved, conservatism loses out to corporatism.
You can’t get rich on an ideal. But you sure can on cheap exploited labor that can’t fight back or make demands.

We have to keep phoning and writing and contacting media.
Perhaps African Americans can be convinced to join the battle. (see for example "Illegal immigration's harmful effects:Congressional Caucus drops the ball" by Carol M. Swain in today's The Washington Times).
We have to spread the word. Fox News is not reporting much on it and some of its reporters support it, thus leaving Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck. I wonder if anyone will be distributing leaflets in D.C. this weekend since Rolling Thunder will be in town along with lots of tourists lining the parade route.
You really don't need to wonder. Any member of Congress (and the President) voting YES on S. 1348 is in breach of his/her oath of office and is a traitor who should either resign or be removed from office. This bill, among its many other outrages, ignores the Constitution and is a direct attack on the national sovereignty of the United States, especially the section featuring the NWO/Globalist wet dream, the SPP/NAU which calls for integrating the United States with Canada and Mexico (North American Union).
Annie was lethal and hilarious last night on Hannity and Colmes. They had a pacperson/young woman/Edwards supporter on against Annie, (who ignored her)...that’s how lame the woman was. Colmes had to prop her up, a tactic that failed miserably. All they did was play and replay the video of Edwards combing his hair.
I am in MD now not NJ. I’m sorry but I will become an independent.
Bush and the leaders of the party are pushing this and do not giver a hoot about the affects on the country.
I will never vote democrat and as it is starting to appear I will be leaving the Republican party soon. Or should I say they are leaving me.
I regret that I voted for Bush.
