Does a poor upbringing make you more left wing?

I grew up in a completely dysfunctional family without a father.

When my father was in the house there was abuse.

When my father was gone I was surrounded by male-bashers.

I was discouraged from trying so I would avoid failing.

I got the hell out at the age of 18. I was a liberal but slowly changed as I was more and more exposed to reality. What really pushed me over the edge to become a conservative was two things:

1- When Clinton was having affairs, Gen Ryan was nominated for Chief of Staff, AF. It was revealed that, while legally separated (pending divorce) he had a relationship with a civilian woman outside his chain of command. Clinton made no effort to defend him.

2- During the 2004 election I was serving overseas. The DNC released a pamphlet explaining how to reject absentee ballots from overseas since, “most of the overseas votes will be military service members who tend to vote republican.” The pamphlet was faxed to the GOP headquarters. Later the dems kept claiming republicans were “disenfranchising” poor liberal voters.

So yeah, a screwed up childhood can make you an idiot. You have make the choice to leave the environment and stop being an idiot.

The "educated" university segment is attracted to big-government because they are articulate, and a big-government, socialist environment is where very articulate people can attain power

Murray Rothbard has a great book out there, "Power and Market".

The market allows anyone to create and benefit themselves, their families, and society as a whole.

Power allows the powerful to feel good about themselves--and as often as not has terrible negative consequences for almost everyone else.
