Des Moines, IA (LifeNews.com) -- Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas is considered by some to be the best pro-life candidate in the race for the Republican nomination for president in 2008. Whether he or another pro-life candidate wins the nomination, both Brownback and most pro-life advocates believe someone who backs abortion won't represent the party.
At a campaign stop in Iowa over the weekend, Brownback said he has problems with some of the other candidates based on their lack of commitment to pro-life principles.
It may not be him who gets the Republican Party's nod but Brownback seemed to indicate that it wouldn't be pro-abortion ex-New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani either.
"You look at their track records and some are not pro-life, he said. I do not believe the party will nominate a pro-choice candidate.
During the event, he emphasized his track record and said that, as president, he would appoint a Supreme Court justice who could likely provide the fifth and deciding vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.
I'm a principled conservative that can get this done, Brownback said, according to an AP report. I've got a track record on it. I have a pro-life track record, and a whole-life track record. I think that's something that's very much going to be embraced.
At the same time, the senator said that he will work to unite both the social and fiscal conservative elements of the GOP to recapture the White House next year. We win on both wings of the party, Brownback said Friday. You cant win on just one.
Brownback's campaign is resonating with pro-life advocates and last week he obtained the support of Norma McCorvey, who was the Roe in the landmark high court decision. McCorvey is now a pro-life activist and filed a lawsuit to try to overturn the ruling, though that didn't work out.
and it won’t nominate a guy like him who voted against the surge and is pro amnesty.
Brownback and Duncan Hunter are the most pro-life candidates, imo, because they both supported Terri Schiavo, and they both made the effort to speak at the pro-life rally in D.C.
Some of the other GOP presidential candidates are very pro-life, too, but Brownback and Hunter have the strongest passion.
“John Hawkins: Would you like to see Roe v. Wade overturned?
Duncan Hunter: Yes. You know, I’m the author of the personhood-at-conception bill which right now has over 100 co-sponsors ...that would define personhood as moment of conception, so, it would allow us to have a reversal of the effects of Roe v. Wade without a constitutional amendment.”

Dunc’s gonna be Fred’s DefSec. ;-)
What an excellent choice that would be. Here's hoping that Fred is in a position to make that pick.
A stopped clock moment?
“Duncan Hunter is the real deal as far as pro-life candidates go. Sam would do us all a favor if he would drop out and get on Hunter’s team. We need to consolidate and unify to knock out Rudy McRomney.”
You bet!! Brownback along with Tancredo, Tommy Thompson, etal should all get behind Duncan Hunter and build a unified front! Right now they are siphoning off support from each other. Get behind Hunter, wait for at least one of the annointed three to get knocked out and continue the grassroots support for Hunter. Gee, it seems almost too easy!lol
“Some of the other GOP presidential candidates are very pro-life, too, but Brownback and Hunter have the strongest passion.”
That is what I look for in a pro-life candidate! Passion not just lip service! I like the guy who has the issue burned deep into his soul! Those who arrive at the prolife position as a political calculation can go smoke rope. No passion/ no commitment.
Freudy McRomney?
“No passion/ no commitment.”
I agree, and my vote goes for candidates who walk the walk.
O.K., then, that eliminates Rudy Julie Annie and who else?
“Right now they are siphoning off support from each other. Get behind Hunter, ..”
Hopefully they will get behind Hunter.
