Overall, I thought it was an excellent article. However, I disagree with Scheuer on one point.

I think the threat of al-qaida acquiring fissile material from Russia is over blown. The Russian mafia, who would have access to the material, would be wiped out by the Russian government if a nuclear terror attack was ever perpetrated with that material.

But other than that, good article;

Eight years of doing nothing is going to take a long time to fix.

And because of the 2005-06 run-ups in oil prices, al-Qaeda’s Arab benefactors are flush with cash.

This is the most important statement in the article. Why our government is not hell-bent on eliminating oil usage with a "Man on the moon" stated policy and program is beyond me. End the oil, end the islamic threat.

i tuned out early in the article when the guy claimed that bin laden cleverly foresaw and planned being driven out of afghanistan. thats bs. bin laden thought he was invulnerable in afghanistan bacause he had beaten the soviets who were right next door.

the idea that a couple hundred us special forces guys would collapse the taliban was unthinkable.

bin laden sufferedd “unintended consequences” big time with 9/11 and to think otherwise is foolish. we are winning against al qaeda.

Sooner or later, our country will have to make a choice between employing devastating force with little or no regard for civilian casualties, and giving up on a major swath of Europe and Asia WRT radical islamic dominance. The consequence will be an isolated United States going against a Eurasian caliphate. The stakes will no longer be “stability” or “democracy for all”, but our survival.

We are a nation of checker players they play chests. We want a hurry put get it done war. They want slow down, wait, educate the youth war. They want a religious war , we want religion kept out of it and make it war against terrorists . We have to take our time and remove them one by one. But this is where it gets tricky . The anti American Rosie O'Donnell's are out there spuming their rants against our president and the real war, the war on terror!

I did not read the article in detail. It is my opinion that George Bush has accomplished a lot against the AQ network.

People disregard what he has done in energizing many countries to fight AQ, including historical allies and new allies, but rather look at the daily bombings against innocents in Iraq.

He has also isolated Syria and Iran, with the objective being that if they willingly assist terrorists with WMD they will be hit the same as if they had done it.

I think Bush has done a tremendous job, given the nature of the threat.

Americans tend to forget

TEND my ass. They have already forgotten. 9-1-1 is as far away as the War Between the States to 99% of Americans. All Americans want to know is who won Dancing With the Stars? Who was on Oprah today? What time does the big game come on? Are we going to the bar tonight? Did you get those four porn videos today? Give me the supersized pizza with extra fat on it? Naw, Americans could give a rat's ass about 9-1-1. It is over. Done with to them. Shames me to be an American these days. With a president who is breaking his oath of office by legalizing illegals, to Marxist's running the country. America is truly doomed.

It is incredible that a bunch of primitive throwbacks, while sitting around in caves in their own crud have been able to garner so much support by the Democrats (and Rinos) in the United States Congress.
