Next Wednesday, June 6th, XM will air a unique special that re-creates the radio coverage of D-Day, with archival reports from NBCs original radio news bulletins of the invasion.
This incredible broadcast will air, in real-time, starting at 12:41am ET (which was the time of the first airing) and will end June 7th, at 5:45pm ET on The '40s (ch 4). The special will be based on the original NBC radio news reports of the invasion (currently housed in the National Archives) exactly as it was heard almost 63 years ago.
The marathon will also feature music of the era and archival reports from radio commentators of the day, including H. V. Kaltenborn, Merrill Mueller, and the other members of NBCs news staff.
"Once we discovered that this material existed, we felt we had an obligation to bring it to XM listeners," said Program Director Marlin Taylor. "No one else would undertake such an endeavor and it is our role to keep the music and history of this era alive and available to those living in the 21st century."
Pretty amazing.

This should be good. Now I'm glad I got an XM radio for Christmas.

They have done this for a few years now and it is great. The 40s is my favorite channel and I am so glad that they do this.

Gonna pick that up on XM On Line. Thanks for the heads up!

I can’t believe we broadcast information about the invasion on D-Day. I thought part of the deal was that we wanted Hitler to think Calais was the real target.

I cant believe we broadcast information about the invasion on D-Day. I thought part of the deal was that we wanted Hitler to think Calais was the real target. If the Normandy invasion was a feint, broadcasting news of it would be part of our plan. Besides, even with the media on America's side, some news is likely to slip out anyway.

I thought part of the deal was that we wanted Hitler to think Calais was the real target. We did want him to think that and the news reports only added to the illusion.

If CBS were doing this, the invasion would be a bust and they’d have us believing that cut and run is the only viable course of action.

Bookmark for capture. It's already been "captured."
For those who don't want to bother with XM, who don't have XM, or want more than just June 6th, go here and scroll down to the World War II stuff.
Be prepared to be shocked if you listen to any quantity of this stuff as I did recently (to Pearl Harbor et seq., D-Day et seq., VE Day, and Atomic Bomb Day, on a recent long drive). The country was culturally a very different place.

It's already been "captured."I appreciate the link, but "IT" has not already been captured, unless you know where I can download the XM broadcast (in its entirety).
You're referring to a different IT.

You're referring to a different IT. I wonder where you think the XM folks are getting their programming from.

You are correct and such broadcasts would have begun by June 5, 1944, possibly as early as December 8, 1941.

good thing it is a recreation of events from 6/6/1944...were they to do a recreation based on the criminal liberal media today it would goes as follows:
June 5th: See BS news has an exclusive report from the NY Slimes that tommorrow, June 6th, American forces and their allies will invade the Cherbourg peninsula at Normandy Beach in an invasion named project Overlord...repeating- See BS had learned from the NY Slimes that the allied invasion will begin first thing tomorrow morning at Normandy Beach!!!
