GREENSBORO — Calling the actions of Richard Norman “Chip” Williams among the most disgusting he has ever seen, a federal judge sentenced the former publicist for NASCAR drivers to 26 years in prison Friday afternoon for having sex with a young girl he met over the internet.

“This, by far, involves far more torture and forms of activity the court has ever seen in a case of this nature,” U.S. District Court Judge William Osteen Sr. said.

Williams, 49, had a long relationship with a Guilford County girl he met over the internet in 2002. She was 11 years old at the time. The relationship included sex, cyber sex and torture.

Williams sounds like a real creep who got what he deserved. Was he caught by using some type of entrapment scheme?

Unfortunately, no. But that is why we need sting operations like this. We need to catch them BEFORE they rape and torture.

the exploding gas tanks were meant to show what could happen in a wreck if you carry explosive devices in your gas tank.
Whew, glad I read this before the weekend. I had plans.
In case you missed it - NBC faked the test results by providing the ignition source of the gas tank fires/explosions.

An argument I frequently hear is that law enforcement needs to be able to make an arrest based on mere potential in order to prevent crime.

"-- Once it's established that you can punish people for having mere potential for harm, then it's not a far stretch to enter a system of negative law (where everything is illegal unless specifically allowed) in that area.

Why are prior restraint based laws so bad? On the most basic level because they rob us of Free Will. They set out ot say that if you have a certain weapon, or if you're a certain class of person, then you're going to commit some other, more serious confrontational crime.
It assumes we have no choice as to whether or not to commit the more serious confrontational crime.
It punishes us for having the potential, not the intent, of harming someone else unjustifiably. Because you have the potential to do something wrong then you must be punished for it. It does not matter if you never dreamed of hurting another soul in any way, you will be punished if you possess the capability for it. -- "

This is a bad case for that. These men go to all the trouble to show up at the house of a minor with the intent of having a sexual encounter. They go beyond a presumption of innocence. I have a friend who does this for the SBI. They don't have to entice. These pervs do all the work for them. It's just thinning the herd.

Power corrupts. An unrestrained power to "thin the herd" can be absolutely corrupting, imho.

Possibly but this doesn’t make a good example. Calling up David Koresh and asking him for an illegal weapon is a bit more like entrapment. This is more of a “honey pot” situation. This is more like waiting on a highway to watch speeders.

The officials don’t post something like “I’m 13 and I want to have sex”. If they just post “I’m 13”, the pervs do the rest.

Contrary to NBC policies and guidelines, the suit said, targets often are “led into additional acts of humiliation (such as being encouraged to remove their clothes) in order to enhance the comedic effect of the public exposure of these persons.”

I’ve seen some of this show. Its not funny ,I did’nt find the reporter to be smug and I have to say I was shocked that grown men were so eager to have sex with teenagers.

No punishment is to great for these freaks.
