One silly box! They don't mess around.

No, they don't: not any more. It's a bad idea for a US citizen to try to bring any type of contraband into the US regardless of type or amount. Now if you're an illegal alien, no problema!

Shoot, I smoked Cuban Candella Lights the whole time I was a landed immigrant in Canada. Never gave it a second thought. Who knew I was leading a life of crime?

Well, that depends. If you were an American citizen during that period yes indeed - you’re a law-breaker. If not a US citizen, then no harm no foul. Of course, part of the reason for my posing this little gem is that it illustrates a number of points about US law and about the embargo. Of course I like talking about cigars, too.

I was/am an American citizen. At the time, I paid my income taxes like any Canadian, then got a tax bill for the IRS. It seems America wanted to tax foreign earned income, too. Shortly thereafter, the Congress reversed that particular insanity.

During that time, MLW Worthington-Studebaker’s (yes, THAT Studebaker) Canadian subsidiary was going to sell some locomotive engines to Cuba. Under pressure from the US govt, MLW forced its subsidiary to cancel the sale. Needless to say, that irritated Canadians to no end.

The joke going around was, what is the US afraid of? A locomotive invasion from Cuba? It cracked me up just imagining the rooster tails sent up in the wake of the big diesel-electric engine as it roared up onto Miami Beach.

When country A tells you you can’t do something in country B where is perfectly legal because it’s illegal in country A, you have to question who’s free and who isn’t.

I don’t think they’re made in Mexico, you could be right but I seem to remember reading a story in Cigar Mag. that it was Honduras or maybe Santo Domingo. I remember reading that they had their factory burned down by Communistas or something. They are an old Cuban Family and they use Cuban seed with Maduro wrappers. All the old Cubans buy the cheaper Padrons in Miami. You can get them at any Cuban Restaurant at the front desk. My wife is Cuban by the way (I’m Gringo) But her brothers brought me up right before we moved to Tennessee. Regards!

Again, this is what they are spending our money on; so he can casually jet set to whereever to get a cigar. I bet we are paying for it too.

You read the article and think he flew to Ottawa to get a cigar?

“OFAC has no jurisdiction outside the US because the Treasury Department has none. Any attempt at enforcement would be thrown out of Federal court in an instant. The penalties you are describing apply to American travelers to Cuba who attempt to bring Cuban goods back to the US. There are also penalties for US citizens who attempt to bring Cuban goods into the US from other countries as well, but there is still no law against simple possession and use once imported.”

Are you sure?

Then how about USA federal agents travelling to some Far East countries and actively searching for US citizens fornicating with underage prostitutes there(which is a COMPLETELY LEGAL act there)? Then these US Federal agents kidnap their victim to USA where he is charged and convicted.

You now finally have in USA nothing other then a political regime and Police State.

You posting just to troll for hits for an infomercial website?

Mr. Banana hasn't responded yet. He obviously knows where the "Reply" button is.

That darn "Since" thing just complicates everything, doesn't it..?

I would say that any US agents acting in the manner you describe would be exceeding their jurisdiction, unless such were granted by an international accord or treaty - which might be possible in this case. I don’t know enough about the subject to hazard a guess. Thankfully, I only smoke cigars and have researched that subject only insofar as affects US travelers abroad who buy Cuban goods outside of Cuba.

Here is some news for you andy58-in-nh, directly from American news agency.

If you still think you can legally smoke Cuban cigar, as an American citizen, anywhere in the world then God help you.

By the way, I am enjoying LEGALLY right now one of the best cigars in the world, a Cuban Cohiba Robusto.

Fortunately I am not obligated to fight communism by smoking inferior cigars. If my national government ever tried to trample on my personal freedoms in a similar manner I would rescind my citizenship.
