Sorry Mr barnes and the Weekly Standard, your dog wont hunt, and we're not buying what you have to sell. It will embolden others...and would render moot the fence in any case because it would establish a defacto means for all of those tens of millions to come here. And think of all the localities that have tried to correct the problem with legislation. This amnesty will make all that moot as well because NO one will be 'illegal'.
Sad day, my friend.

they're crazy to oppose this once-in-a-lifetime chance to stop illegal immigration and enact sensible policies for legal immigration. This bill does neither of these things and Fred Barnes knows it.
No bill is better than this monstrosity.

When are people going to get it through their heads?
We don't need any more stinking laws - Until we enforce the one we have now.
Come on people. If we would enforce the laws on the books now then we would't have an imigration problem.

The 1986 amnesty also made promises that were never kept. The whole issue is about trust, and we have no reason to trust the government on immigration. W’s insults of his opponents isn’t helping either.

At the top of the list of what conservatives can get is significantly beefed-up security along America's southern border.Yeah right!
For anyone who knows how the "process" works..., there is a huge gulf between "authorizing"........"funding"......., and ACTUAL IMPLEMENTATION!
Business as usual..., BAIT & SWITCH!!!

We need to put a stop this immigration bill immediately and in 2008 when President Obama/Hil take over I am sure they will push through a much better immigration bill./sarc

If they can’t manage to enforce the laws with 12 million illegals running around, how do they propose to enforce the laws with 50 or 60 million running around?
Obviously they don’t intend to. They aren’t even trying now, and they certainly won’t try then.

I disagree with Barnes, but we really need to give him credit for discussing the actual features of this bill instead of simply calling opponents of the bill names and leaving it at that.
To: MNJohnnie
Nonsense.
Conservatives want results. Not another round of empty promises in a long string of empty promises heaped upon institutionalized dereliction of duty.

Come on just admit it. You all just want to vent your bile and hate about not getting ONLY 100% of ONLY what you want in politics. That the real issue here
The simple fact is you old Conservative are not at all interested in getting things done on any issue, you merely want to sit here on the side lines and mindlessly scream about everything. That why the ONLY solutions you people put up are mere slogans.
You all scream things like "Enforce the laws" (Which hasn't worked to date) "Deport them" (How?) "Punish business that hire illegals" (again how?) etc while making utterly NO effort to actually explain how any of that would actually be done.
Face it, the Antis aren't really interested in any solutions on this topic, they just enjoy the excuse to rant and rave in the most hyper hysteric bile filled terms at a President they have always hated. EVEN if they got exactly what they wanted on this topic , they would be right back here tomorrow screaming about something else.
Frankly after 7 years, Most Conservatives are sick of this constant whining.

Actually, didn’t the Senate cut the length of the border fence in half from last years law - that is the “significantly beefed-up security”???

That is nearly word-for-word the same slogan used in 1986.
