WASHINGTON - As the Senate resumes debate this week over legislation giving legal status to millions of unlawful immigrants, a Washington Post-ABC poll found that Americans remain divided and uncertain about how best to deal with the problem.
More than half of those surveyed said illegal immigrants hurt the country more than help it, an opinion voiced by seven in 10 Republicans and about half of the Democrats.
A slim majority believe in creating a pathway to citizenship, with younger people and Democrats far more open to the idea than Republicans and those over 55.
The number in favor of a guest-worker program is almost identical - 53 percent - but on this issue, almost as many Republicans as Democrats back the concept. Those in the Western part of the nation are most supportive of it (65 percent), as are those in urban areas.
But the partisan divide resurfaced when people were asked what factors should be weighed the highest in admitting immigrants. Democrats tended to say that reuniting immigrant families should be given priority, while Republicans were more likely to say that the skills of the immigrant should be paramount.

Just by reading the headline and the source, I call BS.
>>How deceptive - they buried the results that they got when asked about THIS specific plan.<<
Did they even ask about the Senate amnesty bill?
Exactly.
Lies & propaganda... 24/7
I don’t know, I’ve just heard that the polling on this plan was heavily hostile to amnesty.
Here’s a link to the poll WaPo’s probably talking about:

I don’t know what’s with the oversample of “African Americans” either.
Yeah, we’re split alright, most actual Americans don’t want it and the illegals and the rat want it.
That, unfortunately, is a perfect example of how the Imperial Federal Government Schools Monopoly has spent the last 40 or so years dumbing down the populace. In another 30 years everyone will be mindless robots.
Honestly hope I won't be around for that.
Americans can be easily swayed and a slight majority are just plain stupid.
Imigration of educated workers - yes.
Imigration of uneducated welfare queens - no
You also get different results if you ask “should they be allowed to stay” and “should you make them legal”.
There are people who don’t think you should take a lot of effort to round up people and throw them out, who support NOT making them legal, getting rid of the ones that commit crimes, and sealing the borders.
I don’t know if it’s beause they have illegals working for them, or if it’s just the “compassion” of not wanting to actively uproot people, or just the idea that it’s too much bother and maybe they’ll all leave when we crack down on the employers.
I’d be happy wilth a bill that let them stay without “legalizing” them. We can roust them with an employer crackdown by requiring employers to verify the ID which legals will have to get. Illegals won’t be able to get the IDs.
Don't think the distinction is lost on the politicians. They kill this one S L O W L Y and in such a way as the Hispanic population is not quite sure who to blame.
Both GOP and Dems supported "shamesty"...but for some odd reason it didn't pass:)
