OK — I know that is what people keep saying, but what, exactly, does that mean? How does that work? Who was paid off and why doesn’t that tactic work for Martha Stewart or Scooter Libby?

There is no different America for the "rich." (This word is always used by the left, by the way, to entice anger; most others use "wealthy"). It often works both ways: were you or I to do what Martha Stewart did, neither of us would be in jail at all.
There is a different America for the famous, however. But who is addicted to celebrities, who buys all those magazines with gossip, who watches MTV telling us about 40 worst hairdo --- the courts? Bush administration? Congress?
It is Americans who create "celebrities" out of people like Adam Sandler --- he is "entertaining," you see. Like a squirrel in your yard.
Don't complain, then, about the different America for the famous --- it is we ourselves, by allowing this garbage in our culture, that have created it.
